I understand the interior fuse box has three unused spots and that one of them is switched and one of them is always on. What is the maxmium current once could draw from these spare fuses? Other fuses in the same box are rated 7.5A to 20A. Therefore, can I assume the wiring will support up to 20A of current?

The reason I ask is I want to power a small amp (50-100W). Many of these amps have inline fuses of 15 or 20A and threfore seem like a canidate to be powered from the fuse box. I understand that running a cable directly to the battery is preferable.

Thanks!

I always run fresh large guage cables right to the battery for all my installs (make sure you put a fuse within 6 inches of the battery!) because the fuse box was never meant for large amplifiers... Plus, what if you ever want to upgrade your amplifier to a larger one? If you run high quality cables of sufficient guage now, you are ready for the future!

BAD IDEA! Run the cable to the battery - it's easy - there is a rubber gromet (sp?) on the passenger side that goes right to the engine compartment.

Definitely go direct to the battery, for all the reasons noted and others.
P.S. I did installs in college at "Hear No Evil" in Eugene Oregon.
