Another great day, rod knock
Summer last year I spun a rod bearing in my 2000 civic. Apparently I had an oil leak and didn't catch it in time, leading to the bearing tearing up. Ended up getting a new crank, built the bottom end and the head and installed a turbo set up.
A couple weeks ago the civic was smoking oil and it ended up being some of the pos vitara pistons cracking and having bad ring lands, lots of blowby. Also the cheap turbo I originally had had some serious shaft play
Well the civic is nearly done and this morning on the way to work in the s2000 I feel a lack of power. I'm just cruising at 50 and every once in a while I felt something like it was holding the car back. Like it was pulling something, slowing it down then it would go back to normal. Seconds later I hear ticking then constant loud knocks. It sounded exactly like the Civic did last year when the bearings went out.
So now I'm stuck with no cars, not hoping to rely on using my parents' mini van until I get the civic back
Weird thing is the civic was low on oil when it gave out. Since that incident I do weekly oil checks on both cars and the s2000 was full. So I'm not sure wtf happened. The civic never stalled with bad bearings, but the s2000 stalled any time I was in neutral this morning, hope the block is still good
I was upset earlier, but I know I just need to be a little patient and I'll have both cars 100% healthy. Only thing that sucks is $$$ going down the drain and having to wait...

We've had a few reports like this in recent months, I wish we knew how stuff like this happens, nothing worries me more about my car than an incident like this.
Good luck figuring this out, post up your findings when you can. Best of luck.

shop was supposed to email me pics of the head before they closed for the weekend, but they pretty much told me they took the valve cover off and said oil was gunked/dried up so bad it looked like it had never seen an oil change. I've only had this car for a year, did two oil changes myself(when I first got it and just a couple months ago).
they said they couldn't even start the car to hear the noises and couldn't turn the crank by hand. That morning when it stalled twice it was very hard to start again, like the battery was trying as hard as it could.
I'm getting the civic back monday, so I'll be spending some $$$ on those wiseco pistons + their labor charges and a tune.
The shop was going to start tearing apart the motor, but I told them to leave it alone for now. I'll talk more with them monday when I go to pick up the civic, I'm debating if I should have the engine rebuilt and cleaned(if the oil was sludged up as bad as they said) or if I should just buy a used low mileage f22c and have them swap it out.
considering I spun one or more rod bearings, I'm assuming the crank is bad. And for all I know the head components are not in the best shape if they weren't being lubricated properly. And taking into account the cost of pretty much all the internals that are bad+labor, I might be better off with just an engine swap.
So for those worried about theirs, I'm thinking this is more of the previous owner neglecting the car than an actual unforeseen defect.

damn, thats sobering...50K miles only on a STOCK motor? there are fellas taking our engines to 200+ miles with no issues...bad maintenance for sure can contribute to an early demise but maybe you can check and make sure it couldnt also be traced back to an individual failed part like an oil pump or something. Good luck man, sounds easier to just do a complete swap, but 50K is looooow.
Just got my car back on Wednesday 18th. Stage 4 comp clutch feels great, can notice lighter flywheel also. The pedal feels just like stock, but it grips like the clutch in my civic, nothing no one shouldn't be able to handle(I keep reading reviews on clutches how they're hard to drive, yeah first gear takes a little getting used to, but it is easy overall)
Engine that was put in came from a CR with 31k miles. The shop had to do a few part swaps from the old engine to the new so stuff would work right, I guess the setups are slightly different from 05 to 06-09, like the old intake manifold, old valve cover(cam position sensor, 1 compared to 2 on the newer models). This was the lowest mileage engine I could find for a decent price compared to all others I came across.
The shop still has the old engine, I need to find a trailer or something to get it home, wouldn't fit in a van on the palette they had.
So glad both cars are running 100% now, a big relief
