Another mindless comparison test. . . Motor Trend - March 04
Autocar short test here
Hasn't the UK press generally shown disdain for the S all along? I will have to give some credence to one of their gripes. Having come from a lowered MR-S where my butt was about 8 inches off the ground for the last four years, the upright and high seating position of the S felt like sitting in an SUV at first
. Gotta be up high to see the corners over that long nose...

If Mazda made RX8 a conv, then maybe.
If Mazda made RX8 Conv without additional price tag , then maybe.
If Mazda made RX8 Conv without losing structure stiffness, then maybe.
Until then, RX8 is

The RX-8 is a relatively stiff coupe at the same price point (cheaper even).
But it is not a convertible. If the S2000 was a coupe only, I would have replaced it with a Z06 over a year ago.
But the S2000 is a roadster. And the Z06 isn't.

The Nissan looks porky, and sorta cheap on the inside, and the Mazda is sorta weird. I'm very happy with my Honda. I did find this interesting though: "Despite or perhaps because of it's new found 'civilization' program and a slight weight gain, the 2004 S2000 produces performance numbers only marginally diminished from what they used to be. Honda figures giving up a small measure of performance for a noticeably less-taxing experience will drive more buyers."
