Default Anti Theft Tracking System

New to the site, it's possible this question has already been answered in another thread, if so I apologize.

I'm back into a Honda after vowing not to go back. I've had two EG Si's stolen right from under my nose and no matter how much I spent on alarms or perform anti-theft tricks I've learned over the years (i.e. pulling ECU fuse) a Honda is a Honda and will always acquire "special interest" from those we all don't like. I bought an S2 12/30/08 and on 12/31/08 found out from the local news that the seats are a hot commodity (damn). I can't bare to loose this car or it's seats and go through the pain and suffering that I'm pretty sure some of us have gone through, again and AGAIN!

At time of purchase I was offered an "Anti Theft Tracking System" (not Lo-Jack). I noticed the sticker on the car (cop car, flashing lights, WARNING Anti Tracking System) asked about it and from the description it seemed like a low budget Lo-Jack that had a guarantee find or they'll pay me 6K. Don't know why I had to pay an additional $395 now that I'm thinking about it, the car was already equipped with this and should have been included with the overall price of the car but, at the time security and v-tec was all that I was worried about.

My question to whom ever is.....Does anyone else have this? Is it solid? My wife is planning on getting me Lo-Jack in March (my b-day), so I'm starting to think this is a waste of $395 to a company and a policy I've never heard of. The title of the paperwork is "Protection Plus", their website is fasterclaims.com. Went to the site and it doesn't scream "you're car will be found by local authorities". It seems more like a boat load of hoops you gotta jump through and in the end you did "something" wrong that will nullify you from receiving the 6K.

Is anyone in the same boat as me or am I on a island by myself?

Ya, you might as well flush $395 (or more, considering they worked it into the financing) down the toilet. You got scammed by a stealership, congrats. When you get to the finance office... JUST SAY NO TO ALL OF THE BULLSHIT THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL YOU, any and everything the finance guy is trying to sell you (warranties\security\etc.) can be bought aftermarket for less than half. That finance guy that was your best friend five seconds ago, will turn into the biggest asshole as soon as you say the magic word "NO", happens every time.

If they try to say that the vehicle is already equipped, simply walk away.... it is almost magical how quickly the vehicle you are buying will lose its anti-theft package ($0.02 worth of acid to etch the windows).

IMO, lojack is the real deal but I would not buy it from a car lot.

WOW! I would expect that from some "no name" dealership but, not my local Honda dealership! They will be receiving a phone call from me tomorrow. I read the back of that form I signed and it said that it's only $50 to transfer. Boy did I get screwed!

Got another question. Is it possible to add features like proximitys, back up battery etc... To the stock alarm or am I stuck with having to buy a complete system? I could care less if buying the whole set will save me money. Or am I better off keeping the original security system & adding seat locks & Lojack? This car, for the most part will be in my driveway with a cover on it. Atleast until summer. I don't want some punk kid diggin around, cutting back carpet to hide this that & the other. Nor do I want to pop my hood & see a big ass siren & 50 different wires resembling a birds nest. I'm trying to keep the car clean & classy. I don't even want a aftermarket key-less entry. Why even buy the car some might ask. Dad needs his toys & dad is tired of hauling 3 kids around town in a ML320. Thx in advance.

why not just get a GPS tracking system, with SMS alert to cell-phone and E-mail.

http://gps-snitch.com/ Is not cheap. but is a good option

i had Lojack early detection system on my EG when all of the thefts were at its peak. And that system was really good. It would call me when the vehicle was moved within 10 mins, and if I didnt answer it would call several other numbers that I had set up. I tested it out a couple of times to see how long it would take for them to call me and it was usually between 10-15 mins. I would recommend it if you feel unsafe about your car being stolen!
