Default Any former BMW owners?

I was just curious as to what you think of the s2000 compared to your Bimmer

I'm a big bimmerhead and I just sold my 325is, I LOVED that car but maintance killed me as I was well above the 150k mark! = )

How's the maitance on the s2000? as far as prices and reliability issues.

The only money I have spent on my S2000 was for the oil changes. Maybe later on I will have to spend more money, I guess, but right now I just pay $20 every 3,000 miles.

My car is very reliable and I love it very much. I have not had any problems. When I first started to drive the car I was grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd but that was because I was shifting below 5000RPMs. Now I shift after 5000RPMs and everything is fine.

I too loved my Bimmer (E30) and had over 200k on it. It gave me remarkably few problems and was well maintained.

The S2000 is a very different car. I wanted something that was also nimble, good on gas, could take quick highway jaunts, was fun in the twistys, but wanted a convertible this time.

The S2000 fit perfectly. I chose it over the Boxter S, the Z4, and the Miata. I didn't consider the Jaguar or Mercedes, and the Lexus was simply too much money although I like it.

I've not owned the S2000 long enough to make comments about its reliability in comparison.

i had a 325is for 7 years and loved it every day....except when it needed to be maintained or repaired, then they saw me coming and i know there are independent garages but i wanted the dealer to do most of the work and back then you needed to reset the stupid maintenance reminder with a special tool too.

time has gone by, i want another bmw, but after driving a m3 cab and trying to negociate buying one i chose to keep the extra 30,000 and buy the S. no regrets, i have another car when i need a back seat...

to replace my sedan i bought a volvo S60 T5 and have never regretted that choice, the wife can drive it, the kid can drive it, and it goes like stink too. i put billsteins and good tires on it and it is a joy to drive in any weather.

do i miss not having a BMW...yes and no...i miss the old styling of the car right up to the past few years, it is a great looking car (or was), the handling is really a benchmark for sedans.2 or 4 door. but you can have the expense to buy and maintain....at least for now.

I just got rid of a 97 e36 m3 and went to the s2k. I was sick and tired of really expensive maintenance and the "big" feeling of the car. Don't get me wrong, it was quick as I had done some suspension, braking, intake and exhaust mods...

Needless to say, I feel like my 03 suzuka is as fast as my M, regardless if it actuall is faster. I've spent very little on my S and haven't had any problems. I kinda miss the "glued to the ground" feeling from my m3. The positives of reliability, maintenance, fun and agility definitely make me think I made a wise choice.

I just sold an E36 M3 last november. My 04 is faster than my M3 and handles better, etc. The M3 is a benign handling car but much less of a driver's car than the S2000, in that the M3 is heavier but easier to drive.

I really liked the M3 and as an only car it made more sense than the s2000 but I have a backup daily driver now, a 93.5 infiniti G20 which does great.

Owned two M coupes, 99 S52 and 02 S54 while owning the S2000.

The S2000 has been in the shop more times than both M coupes combined.

Which is the better car? Tough to say; all have their positives and negatives.

I've had my 330 for almost 3 years now and just recently purchased an s2000.
I must say that I'm extremely happy that the S2000 isnt a daily driver or my only car.
The S2k is just so much fun to drive, but its so loud, small, and has no torque.
The 330 is comfortable, has good torque and is quiet.

MPG on the 330 avg 24.6

Bottom line, 3 series is an awesome car. no regrets. maybe expect for not waiting for the E46 M3!!! -thats a different category though.

I like the S2000 a lot, but only for driving in town and short trips.
