Anybody have experience with wheel repair?
Two weeks ago I took my S in to get some new S-02's put on the rear. When I got home, I checked out the wheels and saw what I thought were scratches, but when I looked closer it looked like it was just the lubricant stuff they use to put the tires on with. I didn't bother to take it all off then just thought I would get it off next time I wash the car. I did that yesterday afternoon and unfortunately learned that my wheels really were scratched up around the edges of the rim.
I was immediately worried that I would have trouble getting the tire shop to take responsibility for their actions since it had been two weeks and 200 miles since they had worked on the car. I went in this morning and talked with the manager and once he looked at the wheels he apologized and said they would send the wheels off to be repaired since the scratches weren't real deep. I was glad to see him step up and vow to get the problem resolved without me having to fight them for it.
After reading the horror stories on this board I was expecting the worse, but it looks like I won't need to find a new tire store to use in the future.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the repair process. I don't really see how they're going to be able to get these scratches repaired so they're not visible without removing more metal from the wheel around the scratches to even it all out. I'm not too excited to have my once perfect wheels ground down and then repainted and hope that they match my front wheels. I'm going out of town Wednesday morning so I'm going to throw the S up on jackstands tomorrow night and drop the wheels off before I leave so they'll be ready when I get back next week. I figure I should let him try to repair them before I demand new wheels ($750
), but I'm not going to be happy if I get the wheels back next week and they look like crap.
Has anybody ever had this type of wheel repair done? If so, what were the results? I'm not as anal as some people on this board, but this is my first car that I've ever purchased new and I've been quite careful to take care of it to keep it looking good. I even zainoed these wheels!
If they'll look like they did before the damage, then I'm fine with letting them repair the wheels as opposed to replace them. If they're going to look like crap then I guess I'm going to have to do the fighting that I was hoping to not have to do and get new ones. Anybody have any advice? Thanks.

A good wheel shop can fix almost any wheel. Little scratches get buffed and polished out. I have all four of my Meister S2R's in a shop getting repaired right now.
After it is done, they should look new...if not better.

that sucks...what wheel cleaner did you use?
Meguiars Hot Rims does an awesome job, in the pink/red bottle....smells like dealer strength wheel acid!
Did you leave it on to long, or apply it to the wheels just after driving? If so, that would do the trick...they have to be cool to the touch, otherwise it will stain them. You can get it out with some Eagle One Never Dull, and a little elbow grease! I would try that first, and if that doesnt work, then get some prices. If you dont need to spend the money, dont....just look at your sig!!
