I have an OEM rear spoiler in the mail, and need to decide whether to install it myself or leave it to the pros. The directions make the install look pretty straightforward, but I just wanted to get some feedback from any of you who've installed this spoiler yourself.

Was it very difficult?
Do you feel the risk of screwing up your trunklid is very high, or is it closer to idiot-proof?
How long did it take to install?
Any tips, pitfalls, etc?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you may have to offer.

I had my Honda rear spoiler installed by the dealer. . . Personally, do to the fact that it requires drilling, I'd leave it up to a professional. . . the last thing you want to do is F'up your trunk. Unless you're particulary good with these types of projects, pay a few bucks for the peace of mind. . . My two cents.

Good luck. . .

I am a car novice, but I self-installed the OEM rear spoiler on my car with zero problems.

Drilling is a piece of cake. Just make sure you follow their directions and drill three times per hole going from small-to-larger diameter bits to guide you. A center-punch is a handy tool. I'd let you borrow it if you were around here, but I'm sure you can find it at a tool shop.

Also, they tell you to wax the part of the car that will be covered by the spoiler... the thing is, if you wax it, the sticky tape you use as markers for the holes you need to drill on top of the trunk don't stick all that well. Keep that in mind. You might want to avoid waxing the area where the tape will go.

Do it yourself. I asked the same question back when I was in the same situation.

Good luck and if you have anymore questions, feel free to PM me.

A good tip: After you drill the hole, put a good application of silicone gasket maker in and around the hole to protect the bare metal area. This will prevent mositure/corrosion from attacking the bare metal.

peace

I installed it today, and found it was almost idiot-proof (I'm a good tester for that). It was mentally tough banging on my trunk w/ a center punch and hammer, but everything came out perfect. The key is to take your time, read instructions twice before you bang & drill on things, and be patient.

I wouldn't advise anyone w/ the proper tools against installing it yourself.

A+ transaction...goods delivered in condition as described, very responsive to PM's. How's that?

I hadn't even thought to post pics, b/c it looks like most any other yellow S2k w/ rear spoiler, other than maybe the tint and the Coastal Metals grill/air flow system that I also installed today.

I'll take some for my own use, and will post 'em here if you're interested, though.

Enjoy your speakers, you won't believe how much of a difference it makes! I'm VERY happy w/ mine.
