Anybody know what this is?
Since this thread started, I've taken a look in there and I have NO such tube. It's way too big for the stock wiring conduits. It has to have been put in there after the car was sold the first time. As mentioned already, see where the other end goes. It may just be remnants of someone's handywork and is no longer serving any purpose.
It's wiring loom... the stereo installer should have used a smaller diameter tho. I'm guessing they probably ran ALL of the stereo wires through that when the stereo was all still in place. Of course, that's a big no-no becuase you get lots of bleeding between wires when you bunch them together (especially if you put the power wires next to the speaker wires) and you end up with lots of noise. I ran my power wires down the opposite side of the car from the speaker wires when I installed my stereo. Of course, that really hasn't done me any good because my whole interior rattles if I turn my system up anyway :-/ So it doesn't really matter how clean my system sounds because I can't stop the damn car from rattling.
Reveran I hav tracked down almost all of the rattles in my car. I have pictures that I wil be posting on how to get most the the large ones out soon as soon as I finsish the review.
It is a very large cover tube but sometimes installers use larger tubes like this so they can double back the wires inside the tube if they run to large a wire to the back. Stupid as when you double the wire up is just pickes up even more engine noise. If he had two very large amps in the back then 2-3 lines of 4 gauges from the front plus two rca's plus wires back to the cabin, it takes up a lot of room.
But remeber that the rule of thumb is 18 inches apart from power lines for RCA's or speakers wires. And if they have to cross do so only at 90 degrees.
Alright enough stereo stuff.

Fixed all my (major) rattles yesterday! Woo hoo! I changed my fuel filter while I was in there. I removed the rear tray and put dynamat on every surface that touches something else. The panels don't mate up quite as flush as they used to, but they're close enough, it's out of sight, and my sh!t doesn't rattle anymore - so I'm happy.
