Default Anybody W/ These Problems??

hello s2k owners,

problem #1
when i put in first gear without brake, the car moves forward just a little bit with a "clink". it doesn't go into 1st smoothly... i only have 1000miles on it too.
is this a problem or not?

problem #2
my passenger seat back support rattles. it make annoying sound. pisses me off! is it only mine?

problem #3
this happens rarely but, when i put in 1st, the idle rpm goes down to 2bars. it stays there for a short time and comes back up. the funny thing is i don't even release my clutch when this happens.Problem or not?

On Problem #2, make sure that it is not the seat belt metal fastener hitting the hard plastic next to the seat causing the rattle.
Took me a while to figure out it was not the seat itself rattling.

Yes I agree with Red Menace on problem #2. Also I find that if either seat is pushed too far back so that it's touching the back panel when the seat is occupied, I get the most annoying squeaking. The seats just need easing slightly forward to prevent that problem.

Yep. This drives me nutty too. I'm thinking of putting a piece of felt on some adhesive velcro strips on the back of my seat to stop it.

For 1: Try moving your driver's seat forward one notch to see if you notice any difference. If not, it is possible (but unlikely) that you have a clutch release problem.
For 2: Slide the blade of the passenger seatbelt into the seatbelt keeper at the top of the seat.
For 3: Don't give it another thought unless it causes a drivability problem.

For Ced: I removed the hooks on the driver's seat to get another inch. To eliminate the squeaking, I had to apply felt to four places. It works though. Felt goes: on the two places near the headrest where it touches, on the seatbelt mechanism where it sticks out, on the outboard corner about halfway down the back of the seat.

And yes ykim1010, you are not alone.

How did you secure the felt Jim?

For your problem #3 I find that this happens as the car is warming up and going from 2 bars to 3 and you come to a stop for a light or other obstacle.

#1 & #2 may be related. It sounds like you clutch is "grabbing" a bit. It is not fully disengaging. This may be caused by you not pushing the clutch right to the floor, OR the carpet may be bunched up under the clutch pedal so it won't go as far as it needs to, OR you need to have the clutch pedal adjusted up a bit so it goes further down when you push it, OR you may have air in your clutch line and you need to have it flushed. Since your car is so new, the last one is not likely.

I have not experienced problems one nor two, but for your problem three: I have noticed this as well and I do not take my car out until it is completely warmed up.

I always buckle up the passenger seat belt even when no one's sitting in the seat.
