My local dealer will be getting a new S2K soon that I will be able to drive but obviously not far since I know I wouldn't want to buy one other people were test driving daily (I'm guessing I might be able to drive it around the block.)

I'm just curious if anyone else was able to test drive an S2K before they bought one. I was scheduled to rent one in Vegas two weeks ago, but someone totalled it so I got to drive a Boxster around instead.

Anyway, most of the other dealers around me are arrogant a**holes ("Just come in and sign the paperwork, then you can test drive it and we'll cancel the contract if you don't like it.")

I have too much integrity to pull the "Call someone who has an S2K for sale in the paper and drive theirs" trick, so basically I figure I'm hosed...

 

Yep I test drove 2 diff s2000's. At two differant dealerships.





AND IM ONLY 17! Just gotta have the skills.

Now I just need to wait a few more months until I can get one for myself.

 

Oh and I might as well add, the first one, me and my dad took out by our selfs for as long as we wanted and we stayed gone for like 10 minutes max.

2nd one me and the salesman went and he let me drive it as hard as i wanted.

Its just going to depend on who you talk to.

 

I'm surprised due to the uniqueness of the S2000 that more dealers don't have demonstrater S2000. This ain't no Accord or Civic. A pure sportscar with few concessions, most people will either love it or hate it. This is either the car of your dreams or your worse nightmare. You must find a way to test drive this car. The only car that remotely compares would be possibly a Miata. A Miata with no cowl shake , a stiffer suspension, and an extra 100 horsepower. Oh yea, let's not forget that V-tec scream as power starts to build as you watch the tach bar graph climb towards 12 o'clock. And the fabulous fade free brakes that will amaze you with the authority that they slow you. And the beautifully designed leather seats that hold you. And the worlds best 6 speed transmission that makes shifting a joy. Forget that Miata comparison, there is no comparison.

 

Yeah, I went on a test drive too. It took them like 2 weeks to get one for me to test drive (it was a new Suzuka Blue, but had 4600 miles on it already!), and then the salesman went with me. The whole time he was telling me about himself, and then telling me "You might want to grab the next gear" and "don't go so fast", etc. I only went 65 in a 55, but he was freakin' out, said he would get the ticket if we got stopped (yeah, right! ). The whole test drive only lasted about 5 minutes, basically around the block... and I never got to VTEC or even come close to anything I really wanted to try.

Still, I knew I HAD to have this car!! And now I do!!

 

I refuse to deal with ANY dealer who will not let you test drive a car you are considering buying. As a matter of fact they should be reported to the corporate headquarters.

 

I had no problem getting a test drive. I actually drove two different S2Ks prior to getting mine. One test drive was with the salesman. He drove it off the lot, but only because I think he wanted a little road-time himself. The second drive, in a different car, was just my wife and I.

 

Absolutely..... I'd never, never, never consider buying a car without one.

 

I got to drive the same car twice. A 2002 Yellow .. had 8 miles the first time I took it out (with my wife) and 34 miles the second time with the sales guy a week later.

When I went to drive it a second time, there was a guy there about to drive it .. he had a 2002 M3 coupe. When he came back he could not stop smiling ! I think he ended up getting a red one (and keeping the M3). I traded in my 99 Vette for a Silver one.

Never would have done it without a test drive.

 

In a lot of cases, the dealership owner (or s/o ) has an S... When I was shopping in the Fall of '99, the salesman offered to let me come in at noon one day and asked the owner to drive in his wife's Black/Black S2000 that day. I didn't even know about VTEC/6500rpm/etc at the time, but had a great drive for 1/2 hour. That drive just lit my fire to find one... hard to do 2.5 years ago A month later I picked up my Silverstone/Black
