Default Anyone done a lease assumption for an S?

As per an earlier post, I'm going to Switzerland on an international assignment for 2 years.

Was leaning heavily towards shipping car with me. Now it looks like it will be fairly obnoxious so I'm considering getting out of lease by letting someone assume it.

Main downside is that I will have to be listed as a guarantor as per AHF rules.

2008, 36mos lease, 29 months left, 4500 miles currently. Payment= $349/mo.

Question: Is there a market for a lease assumption on a new S? the benefit would be that I've already paid the drive offs. Only saw one s2000 on leasetrader.com and it was a 2003 I believe.

Any experience folks have had doing something like this greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Only 15 there. I would have expected more.

Luckily, mine would still be the cheapest (monthly payment wise)

I dont think HONDA allows you to do that. You still remain on the lease. what color and where are you from?

rcman,

Send me a PM on your car. I would be interested in taking over your lease. Where are you located?

You're really willing to be a guarantor on someone else's lease?

If you have the means, you should be able to buy out the lease. You might even be able to arrange financing through Honda to do this. The outlay of cash would drastically increase but the final outcome would be like money in the bank even though you will take a hit on depreciation. All buyers take this hit and so do people leasing. The end game here is you may be a little ahead at the end of the lease period. Explain your situation to your Honda dealer and see what they say. GL

The options I was given by Honda fincancing:

To get out of the lease I would have to pay the remaining 30mos and hand over the keys (~$10k !!).

I can sell the car and pay off the current balance of the sales price on the lease (~$28k) so I'll likely take a smaller hit there.

I can do a lease assumption through Honda, but will have to remain as a guarantor---I would really have to know the person to take such a risk.

They didn't offer anything more creative than this.

I'm still looking into shipping with me to Switzerland as one option but it's not as appealing as I thought originally as I'll get limited support from my company since they are providing me a company car there--but I'm in negotations with them now. So I should know in the next couple of weeks if I need to get out.

I'm in Greensboro, NC-- car is Chicane Silver with Black interior.

I didn't realize Honda won't remove the previous owner from the lease. The terms on your lease seem pretty good. Is that $349 payment including the monthly sales tax?

Yeh, some companies allow you to do a lease transfer so you're totally off the hook. Not Honda Finance.

I was able to negotiate lease offer lower than the $349 special offer. So total payment with tax is actually $354.42
