Default anyone drift their s2000?

ok currently i have a 240 hatchback and a scion xb the 240 is suppose to be my fun car that i also daily drive and ocassionally i like to get it sideways and drift it, not that i am any good at it but it's fun i'm about to get a cage put in my 240 and do alot to it but lately it's getting to be unreliable and a pain in the ass, so i'm really thinking it's time for a newer car, i love s2000s and my next car has to be RWD since it will be replacing my 240sx, i want something i can drive hard and not have to worry about but i also what something i can drift on occasion. will the s2000 do it?

Yes you can drift an s2000, its just really hard and you have to watch out for that snap oversteer. IMO if you just want to buy one for drift purposes I wouldent.

A 350Z might be a better choice for a drift car. It has more tq and more FI options. The RS-R team has a drift S2000, but I haven't seen any others.

I believe the RSR drift car put tons of suspension mods into their cars to counteract the snap oversteer. This car is made for grip racing- you can see this by its short wheelbase (have you seen any Lotus Elises drifting?). Anything can be done with enough money, but personally I wouldn't want to change the actual suspension (which is superb to many cars) just to change the characteristics from grip to drift. If you drift the S2000, prepare to spend money on the differential as well- because our cars will not be able to handle constant shift-locks associated with drifting. I did some research on this as well and came to the conclusion that the s2000 is not the best platform to start a drift car. If you have the money like RSR does, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd put some R compounds on and stick to the track!

P.S. I've recently purchased a AE86 (Corolla GTS) for my drifting ventures- not the easiest car to start drifting on, but then again this isn't the first car I'm starting drift on (previous cars include s13 (stock w/ only a kaaz lsd, a FC TII, and a FD). Also, I learned the basics of grip driving when I owned my 1987 944 Turbo with PCA (Porsche Club of America), going to DEs, AutoXs, and fun runs whenever I could. Ask all the drifters, you will NOT be able to get drifting down unless you mastered the basics of grip and how to control you car. All drifters have hit something i.e. wall or guardrail during their career as a drifter or they're simply not a true drifter.

A used 350Z is the same or less $$ than a used S2000.

Problem with the S2k is the power band.... Keeping it in the power is tuff in a drift.... SO dont even consider a high gear drift. Im not a drifter, but i underdstand it pretty well... and have done my share of parking lot spins ... So in no way consider myself an expert...

Im sure a properly set up S could drift... Maybe with diff gears... As to keep it in the power...

I forgot to mention the powerband as well- why do you think RSR is running a turbo to alleviate this issue?!

I still have my 95 240sx and it is nothing like my 04 s2k. It is much easier to control the 240 and drift it than the s2k. the s2k power band sucks for drifting. i suggest you get a used 350z or g35c. they go for around 26k.
240's rock. im glad that was the car i learned how to drive rear wheel drive on.
