Very interesting!
And here I thought it was just my gas cap and my car...
When I get in for the sparkplug recall I will ask for a new cap and report back if it is any better.

it happened to my02 for the first time today! i had 5984 miles on the car and it just happened while i was driving on the freeway with gas tank half full. whenever i fill up, i pass the 3 clicks to be sure.
i called the dealer and they said it could be because of the gas cap. i thought no way! i went and checked and it was loose! i'm still getting it checked out tomorrow morning, at least so they can get rid of the CEL light.

Traynspotting,

You can save yourself the hassle of having the dealership mess with your car. At your next fillup, the CEL will be turned off.

The CEL will not always reset itself, when I had my cap problem everytime It came on I'd have to crawl under the dash and pull the fuse.

Got my plugs changed yesterday and mentioned to the service manager about the poor fitting gas cap and engine check light coming on. Gave me a new cap, no questions asked even though he never heard of the problem. The new cap screws all the way down with no effert. The old cap was clearly defective. 2002 S2K

I gotta get to my dealer for that new cap already. Mine is getting worse althought the thread look okay. I think the thread/threads are so large that there is room for error when putting this cap on.
