Personnally I don't think it has been discussed intelligently enough.

I don't know where you gathered your data about gearswaps, but I had no problem reaching 60 in second gear with a 4.44 gearset installed.
In addition, the car could still reach top speed, because it was always drag-limited rather than gear-limited.

If you are building a car that will be tested by many major international magazines, all of which use 0-60 or 0-62 as significant yardsticks, having your car top out at 58mph is somewhat silly. I think you completely misunderstand the criticism of the new gearing.
If you are building a car for your own personal enjoyment, it doesn't matter where top speed in each gear ends up at.
You might as well say that '00-'03 owners with turbos or superchargers are jealous of '04 owners.

NECurve,
You actually make a valid point, even though your getting bashed in the head about it.
It is known that there is an extra shift for the 04 S2K in a 0-60 run.
We also know that changing the final drive makes us shift sooner.
So, does the 4.57 set make an older S shift into third before 60? The 4.44 set does NOT (info from Station)
The real question to me is......who cares?
I do not drag race my car. 0-60 times are fine for BSing with friends and working on your ego, but in real life it just doesn't matter!
Do you finish a street race from a red/green light and then ask "How quick was your 0-60"? Don't think so.
I am getting the 4.44 or 4.57 gear set eventually (when my wallet says so) and will wave bye-bye as I pass - completely oblivious of my potential 0-60.
Hockey

According to Reverend's Gear Calculator at http://reverendsgarage.net/index.php?conte..._calculator.php, the 4.57 gears on an 00-03 will produce 59.5mph or 61.4mph at 9000rpm, depending on if you turn on the tire flex factor.
