700,000, 850,000.... Theres only so many times a piston can go up and down in a cylinder before the metal is warn away and 700,000 miles isnt
realistic.

Even more interesting is what a main bearing would look like at 700,000 miles.
Keep in mind that a main bearing isnt a bearing at all... its just metal sliding against metal, protected by a layer of oil.
Again, I dont think 700,000 miles is realistic.
In a babbit bearing, metal never touches metal, that's what oil is in there to prevent.. So bearings can last forever, if proper attention to oil is paid. I had a Datsun B-210 50-plus that we bought new.. I was bored one winter, and I hadn't drivin it for months, so I tore the engine down. It had estimate 200K miles on it, I don't really remember, but it was 1988. There was still faint cross hatches in the cylinder walls, the original rings still measured well within spec, and the main and rod bearings were still perfect.. All I did was a valve job and new gasket set. I finally killed the car, by hitting then running over a dear, (about 50 MPH) which launched me into the gravel at the side of the road, where I couldn't get traction in front, and I hit and broke off a 6 inch tree just above the ground.. The car then had 750K miles on it.. Recycle time..

I'm a little over 100K on mine. I'm stuck in Afghanistan at the moment, so not able to take pics.

Just passed 100k 2 days ago. Kinda sad considering its a 2000 and I got it 1 year and 10 months ago with 57k on it.
