Like a lot of people, I'm very picky about parking. Here's a few of the rules I try to follow every time:
-Must be an endspot where other cars can only park on one side of me. Next to a curb is good, because I can pull close to the curb and as far away from the other spot as possible. Even better is next to one of the yellow lined off areas where no parking is allowed, because then I will even park even farther over.
-Must not be under a tree. Sap and bird crap will own you, even though the shade protects you from direct sunlight.
-Must not pull up too close to the concrete barrier. I've scraped the underside of my front bumper on many occasions before I got the distance just right. Like someone else said, I'll be buying an OEM front lip because I like it, but also to cover the scraped part.
-Try to park in sight of a busy area, like the front door of the place I'm in. At least that would act as a deterrent to any potential vandals.
-If I can sit near a window when I'm inside the place, try to park within sight of the window. I used to be able to park where I could see my car from my office window, but now I can't unless I want to get to work at around 6:30am to get one of the spots up front that the security guards always take.
This all might seem pretty anal, but it's stuff I do without a second thought anymore.

That is the EXACT procedure that I go through as well. I also try not to park next to SUV's, damn soccer moms and their careless kids hehe...also parking next to a sedan is better than a coupe, as 2-door cars have a wider 'arc' when their doors are fully opened. Yup, thats about it...
i always park away from the concrete barrier, b/c i am always afraid of letting up off the clutch too early in 1st before shutting off the car and the car jutting forward when it stalls out. Did that the day after I bought my 10th aniv. miata a while back.
My work parking spot is right in front of a camera. Everyone in our office has a monitor right at their desk and one of the 4 screens is the parking lot. Sometimes I stare at the screen and say to myself...."what a thing of beauty."
I just learned the hard way. Scraped the front bottom pretty good.
I guess now the body shop will have some work. It is all good though. I was planning on taking off the emblems and having them filled anyway.

I drive my beater to work, shopping malls, groceries, and any other place where there would be a potential for dents, door dings, vandalism, etc.
Great peace of mind. Hard to imagine working with that kind of a distraction (car being vandalized
)
When going out to dinner, I NEVER let the valet touch (much less drive) my S. Of course the parking rituals described by others do apply here as well.
If you are planning on keeping your S forever, do consider a beater guys/gals, it is worth every penny.
Cheers,

We both are quite careful where the "S" is parked. And we both are usually aware of concrete things in paking lots...............
But there was this one time :

I have the front oem lip on and I've unfortunately heard that terrible SCRATCH a few times, I'll blame it on me getting used to the long hood. Fortunately its just the underside that gets the scratches so they aren't visible.
I've noticed I'm much more careful now. I'll have to get the front lip replaced one of these days...running over a tire in the middle of the road didn't help things!
