I need to clarify - VA does not use RADAR from aircraft. It uses VASCAR which is in essence a stopwatch which computes the time that it takes a vehicle to pass between two painted lines in the roadway. They can't operate this system without these painted lines which signify the start and endpoints for timing.

On I84 in NY they used to (don't know if they still do) use aircraft. If you looked at the road there were perpendicular wide white lines on the road. I forget the distance but they were a mile or 2 apart. I think they were used for timing you between lines.

I have seen the signs on the Garden state Parkway........Say's speed enforced by helicopter....or something like that. Yellow sign with a helicopter and black lettering......never been caught..
but have seen copters hoovering over the parkway at strange times....i.e....not rush hour or no accidents around.

By the way ex-con....saw your wheels at the sound city in denville
.......talked to the guy working on it told him to say italianbucwheat from s2ki said hello......nice install......What ya get some amps...by the way your ride is really starting to come together....looks good....keep up the nice mod's.

VASCAR (timing of travel between lines) spotting from aircraft has been done for years. I once got a ticket in Colorado after being spotted from the air
As a kid my father and me would take the super cub (common police plane) up and cruise at 80 knots around 500 feet up following Interstate 70. You could see the semi-trucks hitting their brakes for miles..... ha-ha.

all you that got written for less speeds... don't you think that at the time it radared you, you actually were doin'g what the radar or VASCAR claims?
i mean those things are pretty freaken accurate...
i can understand a marginal error or 10 miles, but those errors are pretty rediculous?
were you cruising on 120 and 115?
???????

It would be quite expensive to equip a "traffic enforcement" aircraft with an accurate radar. It would have to take into account the speed of the wind at altitude, paralax, and a whole SL of other factors not required of a radar in a cruiser. The size of the aircraft would have to be larger (more expensive) to carry the system, too. I think their using the timing system. Just remember to keep your top down, and look ALL around, including UP.
