Default Anyone Had the TSB55 (2nd Gear grind) Done on a MY2001?

Please post your name, Dealer name, and Dealer contact info below. In some parts of the country (Like where I am) this TSB is being flatly denied because of the MY Date on the TSB, regardless if the problem exists or not. If we fill this thread up with people who HAVE RECEIVED THE TSB55 ON AN MY2001 ONLY, then people can use it to show the dealers that it IS being done and does fix the ANNOYING 2nd gear grind. This will greatly assist those of us who need the problem fixed! Please help!

I'm not sure if they performed the TSB 55 fix however I should be picking up my car today for the 1-2, 2-3 grind problem. After Beaverton Honda compared my car to a 2002 model, they determined I needed new synchros. I later got a call from them stating since they already had the transmission out, they were going to replace the clutch as well due to a TSB.

I have had nothing but great experiences with these folks....my service manager's name is Bruce Wagstaff and the lead tech on this issue was Rick ??.

I'll let you know how the work turned out...good luck.

My 2001 had that TSB work done at Buena Park Honda in CA (at around 6K miles). I went in expecting a fight but they did a test drive and immediately agreed I had "the grind." I did not specifically mention the TSB but they did.

I'm not sure whether my experience will help you or not. I had my transmission serviced at Schaumburg Honda in Schaumburg, IL for a 1-2 grind. However, it was not under the auspices of a TSB.

The grinding had gotten so bad that I could quite easily reproduce it once I got the tranny up to temperature. Once hot, it would grind with ANY shift over 3500 RPM (and how could you possibly shift any sooner?) unless giving it a full second between gears.

So I brought it in and reproduced the problem and they did the work. They replaced the 2nd gear and 2nd gear synchros, and I think the idler shaft as well (not sure, don't have the paperwork in front of me).

So now the unfortunate part....they dropped the tranny (or something to that effect) and bent the input shaft. So they replaced that as well. Unfortunately since then, I find that I often cannot get the car into gear while it's been parked for a bit unless I let the clutch out in neutral once to shift things about a bit. I've experienced this before in this car and others, however this is far more frequent than I like, and than it used to happen prior to this service. This and the "catch" in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts is more pronounced than it was previously (even after giving it about 5000 miles of break-in).
