I don't think running the Spoon ECU alone itself as a performance upgrade or any aftermarket ECU in fact is gonna provide any substantial power outputs. It's more of a compliment of another modification like the complete Spoon N1 exhaust setup or something. But, I'm sure there is someone around with a Spoon ECU in operation on board.

From what I have read, the gains to be had when NOT modified come from better "transient" performance, or performance over temperature. It would appear that our ECU is programmed very conservatively and retards timing and richens the fuel mixture as temperature rises. I know the Mugen reduces these effects and I would assume so does the Spoon.

I'm curious how Spoon & Mugen modifies these units. The factory ones use a large surface-mount processor with built-in RAM and ROM and requires expensive, custom equipment for removal. The chip is not reprogrammable and FLASH-reprogrammable ones are very hard to come by (made for Honda only).

If anyone has one, and would be willing to take a picture of the insides of it, it might answer this question!

If by this you are thinking that Spoon & Mugen modify the stock ECU, they don't. They have a stand-alone ECU that is added to the car. I only have a very vague idea of exactly how they are connected; maybe someone that has one can explain.

I have the Mugen ECu on the race car and the only visual difference between Mugen and Stock is that the section/chips for the theft deterrent system is removed. Everything else is the same at least visualy. The main chip/processor on the Mugen has a light blue colored dot but it still the same brand and model chip/processor as stock.
