I had the same problem when the car was new. Now with about 2000 miles I do not have that problem. The shift into first is butter smooth. In fact, all but the 2-3 shift is smooth as silk. Even putting it into reverse in a cold garage after not driving for a couple of weeks is OK.

I had a 88 Prelude with the same sort of symptoms. It never really went away but it never became a problem either.

My daily driver, a 96 Maxima SE, is difficult to shift into first once in awhile.

I've got it too. I started a thread on it a while ago. It doesn't bother me anymore, so either I've gotten used to it or it's getting better.

We started to have this problem after the 2nd gear grind fix.
We are kinda used to it now that we know it helps it we shift into 2nd gear first.
It's usually ok shifting from 2nd to 1st.
It's annoying, but you aren't suppose to downshift to 1st that often anyway. I just hope it doesn't block me when I'm in need of a fast double clutch down to 1st to race someone.

I have a hard time shifting into first from neutral at a dead stop.

I used to have the same problem also, when I had the 1-2 grind fix done it seemed to fix that. Mine used to be very hard to get into first from neutral at a dead stop or from 2nd to 1st when going at a very low speed.

Well, half of the time are from dead stop.....since that's the primary "reason" for people to shift into first.
It gets annoying because people HONK at you!!
Shifting into 2nd before going to first helps.

That was going to be my suggestion! Its kind of like when you guys have trouble getting into reverse. Shifting into 4th then to R helps. I always found trouble going into 1st in most standard cars so I go 2-1. After that its pie.
