Anyone here who
Just bought three quarts of OEM HTF ( not the HTF-2 ), and just wondering if anyone here change tranny oils on their own.
BTW...... i asked the dealer about the new HTF-2 and they told me that honda never reformulated their HTF, is this true? If not....... should i've bought the HTF-2?
Thanks........

Change mine myself. Only slightly harder than an oil change.
I bought the updated Honda fluid last year. Went back this year and the same dealer only had the old stuff and claimed they didn't know anything about the new stuff.

I'd go with the HTF-2 also--every dealer has some--I believe it's required on all manual transmission Honda models 2007 and later--they'll try to sell you the old stuff if they can--the new stuff is in a silver bottle , green label and white cap.
you'll also need some sort of pump that fits on a quart bottle--here's what I have (i just removed the metal end)

Any boating store in your area should carry this pump--it's almost "universal" for boats or you may be able to find a pump at the local auto parts store.
you may not need to jack the car up to get to the bolts if you have small hands and long arms--the car does need to be level to get the right amount in the trans--I drove mine up on 4 2x4 blocks and set the parking brake--the 1 1/2 inches the 2x4s gave me was plenty to reach the bolts and refill it. It's a very easy job--just remove both bolts and let it drain, put the lower one back in, pump the fluid into the upper bolthole til it flows out and reinstall the upper bolt.--takes about 10--15 minutes max. Be sure to remove the upper bolt first in case you have a problem with it (very rare)--if you remove the lower one first, the fluid drains and if there is a problem with the upper one, you can't refill it and have a big problem.
May want to consider changing the rear diff fluid while you're under there--takes about 10 minutes also--you'll need a 24mm socket and a 23 mm closed end wrench (or visa-versa--can't remember which---do a search and there's a few threads on it) I found both the socket and the wrench for about $12 (total) at Autozone----I'll probably never need them again until next time I change the diff fluid but it's much cheaper than having someone else do it. I used Mobile 1 gear lube but there are multiple opinions on what is best (Honda doesn't make a lube for our rear diff---they just spec what type)
good luck

Here's what the new manual trans fluid looks like--print this out and take it with you to the dealer or you can order it online from Jeff at Hardtopguy.com
http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/product.ph...3&cat=56&page=1
someone posted the actual SKU numbers for both the old and new fluids last summer or early fall (as well as pictures of both) -if you do a search for "new manual transmission fluid" you can probably find them to show your dealer as well
you'll also want the two crush washers that go on the bolts--they're not supposed to be reused--they should cost less than $2 (some folks do reuse them though)
good luck

here's the post with the pictures of the back of the new trans fluid bottle showing the label and the SKU number as well as some good info (you're not alone in having your dealer denying they have any of the new--guess they all want to get rid of the old stuff first)

My dealer does not stock the new Honda MTF, so I buy from hardtopguy.com. Changing tranny fluid is pretty straight forward, but I would advise doing it on a level driveway. The walkthrough in the DIY sticky should be all you need.
