there's been a "great debate" on that very question on this board for years!!!
I did mine at 8k to change it from the old to the new Honda MT fluid--made a difference in smoothness. I'll probably now change it every other year (I drive it about 4-6k/year)
(We have 3 other Honda cars between me, my wife and our kids and I change their fluids by the owners manual--on the S2, I can't seem to wait that long!!

Would only add that the bolts often require a sharp blow to come loose. Not hard, just sharp. Steady force won't always do it.
