Seems that Halloween brings out the best in our under 18 year olds. My car top was cut up! Anyone have their top replaced? How long did it take, cost. How did the repair come out? Looks original?

Oh noooo, Mr. Bill. You do have insurance to cover this, don't you? You have my condolences; I must admit total ignorance about the replacement, but it shouldn't be rocket science. Go to a dealer you trust and keep a close watch on their progress. Look at the bright side, at least you'll get a clean, pristine rear window.

Yea I hope you got insurance as well! Tops run about 600 bucks!

I take it you didnt have a proximity sensor or alarm and obviously no garage to leave your car in. So sorry.

My street was luckily untouched my S was safely tucked away in the garage!

Mr. Bill:

Convertible tops are generally not rocket science. Many are made by local upholstery shops.

If I were at the end of the life of this top, I think I would look into having a new one made of the Porche top cloth. It is a much heavier weave, and seems to be a bit less prone to wrinkle.

I would have to get professional advice on this, but I would definitely look into it since I think it would look better, and because it might even cost less than the stock part.

Just a thought,

Dan.

Unless it's knife proof, I wouldn't bother.

I generally leave my roof down. It's a psychological thing. Puting up the roof means there's something worth stealing. Mind you, I seldom leave the car out anyway.

Mr. Bill,

I had my top cut too. $875.17 is how much the top costs. It should take them a day to get the job done. It is estimated that they need 4 hours. However, the average is about 8 hours at approximately $55 an hour. The dealer I went to gave me an estimate of 5.5 hour for labor and 3 days later called me and wanted 16 hours. I gave my business to another guy in town and saved $500 in labor.

Out of curiousity, anyone have a diagram of how the top fits on to the car?

Ive put 3 tops on Miatae, and while the first one took 6 hours to do (not including a couple of days to get a small tear repaired -- assitant got a little overzealous fitting the top), by the third one, it got down to a 2.5 hour job or so. Granted it was a manual top, but with the top material cost at $345 and the labor for install at least that much, it was well worth the time.

I had my top sliced last night......... about 4 foot long.......... I guess they wanted to steal something but nothing appears missing.......... there is not much to steal. Anyway, my question is factory vs aftermarket? Wish I did have a garage.

Don't think I'd go to a dealer with this problem because he's just going to send out or have a top guy come in and do the work.Cut out the middle man and go to a top shop yourself.

There is a blue 2002 S2000 top on ebay right now ($550, with the glass rear window). I have no connection to the seller.
