tell them your moving where there is no coverage. If the phone doesn't work in the area i've heard they will let you out.

If you can get a foreign driver's license, you can tell them you're moving out of the country and fax them a copy of your license.

Yup. Arrange it with your new carrier. Do not call your current carrier to cancel service or it will screw things up (you'll lose your number). I'm not sure how you're going to do this and avoid the ETF...

A lot of this "I'm moving to a place with no coverage" or "The army is shipping me to Iraq" etc doesn't work anymore. I work in the telecom business and I heard it all. Unless you die and fax us a death certificate, you're not getting out of the termination fee. My ex works for the military (civilian engineer) and had all the documentation to say she was going to be shipped out and that didn't work either. They will just switch you to a cheap plan until you come back or cancel at the end of the contract.

This technique may have worked in the past, but I think too many people are using it now.

The "moving out of the country" works with T-mobile if you can fax them a foreign driver's license. My friend just did this like a month ago.
