Anyone Use Castrol Synthetic?
Took my S to the Honda dealer for a Mobil 1 oil change and they put in Castrol Synthetic instead. Idiots. Anyone use Castrol? Is it a decent synthetic?
There have been lots of very good threads on the various synthetic motor oils the last few months.
Bottom line - don't worry about it.

Castrol Syntec is a better rated motor oil than M1, if you argue over nits and picks and subscribe to one particular study. I've seen other studies that rate M1 slightly higher. FWIW, I use Castrol Syntec (full synthetic, not the blend crap) exclusively and have done so since the first synth oil change. I also use Pure One filters.
Both are great synthetics. IMO better than others on the market. I usually use Mobil 1 but when the store is out I'll skip the Pennzoil and Valvoline to pick up Syntec. (Only happened once so far.) My wife's accord gets Syntec Blend b/c I can't find full synthetic in 5w-20.

Castrol is Group III lube - Mobil1 1 is a GIV. The better Castrol lubes are not brought over here. Syntec does OK on some performance measurements, so-so on others. Overall, I consider it a quality lube, but not nearly the best. Read my analysis in Under the Hood.

silly kids.
mobil owns castrol by a long shot, i know several who are involved in the manufacture of it. (syntec) syntec does still have a high wax content. as compared to mobil which is true synthetic, not the product of leftovers from conventional oil production like syntec. depends on what kind of coverage you want. in the long run it comes down to preference. i work for vw, and they factory recommend syntec, but the reps have been scrutinizing the process which syntec comes from, and guess who they are looking to to take place in their cars, you guessed it.. mobil 1. if you are a freak, and want the ultimate oil and money is no object, neo and redline are THE oils to run. and if your making upwards of 7000 HP, LOL then kendal will probably be at home in your crankcase. anyways. take it easy. need any oil info. im down to help. dave
