I had it happen yesterday.
I washed her and changed the oil the day before and quite definately closed it properly.
Drove to work in the morning, hood closed.
Went out to lunch with a friend, hood closed.
Came back from lunch, hood closed.
While driving home at the end of the day, about halfway home on the freeway I perceive odd reflections coming off the hood. When I give it closer examination, the odd reflections are due to the fact that the hood is unlatched and dancing up and down a bit.

Man I almost freaked, only thing running through my mind was this damn hood is gonna fly up and wrap over the windshield and crush my skull or something.
But even with the death hood bouncing up and down taunting me I managed to calmly put on my turn signal and moved over to the shoulder on the right side of the road, put the hazards on and stop without getting splattered.
I shut the hood and headed home without further incident.

So am I alone in this? Was it just a fluke or is it something that probably needs adjusting?

It's never happened to me but that's what the 2nd catch is for - to keep the hood from flying up if the primary latch fails. You probably closed it with just enough force to keep it semi-latched. You might consider spraying some white lithium grease onto all the contact point of the latch assembly to help it "go all the way". (Or drop it from higher up.)

I give mine a good "drop" from about two feet.

Time for hood pins.

While that is an option... seriously, I've no idea why your hood did that. Definitely try the white lithium grease suggestion, it's super cheap for a tube from an auto parts store (a couple bucks or less).

Just with the way the hood's designed, you do have to give it a good drop.

Yeah I figured it just caught with just enough friction to hold it in place til it got shaken a bit, then popped back up. I drop it from about a foot or so, never had any troubles til yesterday.
I'll lube up the latch assembly and hopefully it won't happen again.

Actually, this same thing happened to me while I was at Texas World Speedway last September. It really freaked me out because I was turning some hot laps when I noticed it, then I had to drive slowly about 3/4 of the way around the 2.9 mile track to get to the pits. I thought the same thing as XVIPER said - it just barely caught the primary latch then the vibrations/air pressure popped it loose.

This has happened to me twice. Once while driving on a semi-dirt road to a track. and this past weekend when just driving around town. Both times I was not driving more than 40MPH.

I will have to lude the latch up also.

Happened to me at two different track events. Got the angry meatball on one occasion, caught it myself and came in on another. Usually only happens on very hot days. Probably has something to do with clearances on the latching mechanism.

I never had a problem before I had the front end repaired (someone pulled out in front of me - replaced the hood and front clip). It was obvious to me that the hood catch was adjusted somewhat lower than before since I used to be able to drop the hood from ~1 foot for a good catch and now requires ~2 feet. I had just pulled onto the expressway when the hood popped up. Pulled over and reset it. I could raise the catch slightly to help but I haven't done anything other than to make sure I drop the hood from a higher distance. No further problems...

Dude the exact same thing happened to me TODAY!!! I was driving home from work at about 90 mph and I went over a spot on the fwy where asphalt meets a patch of concrete and that little bump popped my hood open. I also freaked and slowed down. When I pulled over to close my hood I noticed that the black latch that grabs the hood is angled forward a little. I mean the latch isn't pointed straight up, is it suppose to be this way or have I sowehow bent it foward??
