AP1 and AP2 owners when do you guys shift?
The fuel cut is actually 9000rpms despite what the tach shows. My old VAFC could monitor RPMs digitally and had a high point hold. When I bounced off the limiter I was at about 8965rpms...aka 9k rpm rev limiter.

the fuel cut off point on the celica gts is best b/c when gts owners shift, the rpms fall below the vvtl engagment point. So most owners would shift at fuel cut, to attempt to stay in vvtl. ask me how i know.

He is right about that, I have hit the rev limiter while racing and gotten raped because of it. Now in 1rst and 2nd I actually can shift by the sound and pull of the engine and just glancing at the tach.
Just shift somewhere around 8-9k in an AP1. After owning it for a few months, I realized that this car is not worth having if you don't vtec and have some fun with it every once in a while. More like every day for me
thanks for all the input, I should have made myself more clear and should have said that it is more optimal to shift right before fuel cut or the rev limiter and not while bouncing off the rev limiter

I very strongly encourage you to spend the money and get the basic kit Modifry Redline Warning Beeper. The cadence from the beeper is amazing and you can nail that shift just before the rev limiter each and every time, without ever taking your eyes off the track. To date it remains my favorite mod!
The Modifry redline shift beeper is one of the best mods we've made to the car. On the track or autocross course I generally shift on the fourth beep, which is the same as shifting when the tach starts flashing; However, when autocrossing it's not that unusual to ride the rev limiter at the end of a straight rather than throwing a shift. On the street I drive the car much more conservatively, but if I'm trying to go as fast as I can the shifts are always right at the point where the tack flashes (fourth beep from the Modifry unit).
