Can't go wrong with either. There are pros and cons to each one, I would say whichever you can get with relatively low miles and for a good price.. get that one.

Kind of off topic, but my curiosity is getting the best of me, anyways, how did you manage to blow your engine?

Everyone will have a different preference. F22 puts out more HP and torque, but the F20 makes up for that by spinning faster. Basically the area under the power curves for both engines are the same, which is why AP2s aren't really any faster than AP1s despite having more power. As said above, you can't go wrong with either.. a little more power, or 9k redline, take your pick. If you go with the F22, you can use your current ECU and spin that sucker to 9k

there is no downside to getting the f22, get it and don't look back, you'll love it with an ap1 ecu

I've seen a ton of s2ks on the dyno, and except for one, all the stock ap2s put out about 5-10whp and 10ft-lb more torque than the stock ap1.

Get the F22, keep the ap1 ecu, add a modifry shift beeper set to have you shift at 8600rpm and you'll be good.

The only reason the ap2 isn't quicker in the quarter mile than the ap1 is because of the artificially low redline compounded with the shorter tranny gearing that requires an extra shift to cross the timing lights.

I personally would get a JDM F20c, 250bhp and 9500redline.

It's all personal preference...

The jdm motor has more power since they run higher octane I think.

I'd go with an ap2 motor and don't even touch your ecu. The 00-01 ecu's perfect since it runs rich, makes up for the extra displacement. Just dont push it to redline unless you're at the track .

JDM F20c produces 250ps, which is approximately 245bhp. Japan likes to use the funky PS scale.

Anyway, the 5hp is barely noticeable. I've driven USDM AP1, have owned a USDM AP2, and now own a JDM AP1 (with updated MAP from my understanding, since it's an '04). I would say the torque and/or hp difference is the most noticeable on the AP2, partly due to the gearing I suppose. The USDM AP1 and JDM AP1 difference isn't huge, although the JDM AP1 (for 2004+ models) do have a smoother VTEC transition, which I do prefer.

The JDM engine does run a lightly higher compression; from my understanding, that's due to a thinner gasket. Rumours claim that Honda decided on that due to higher octanes available in Japan (and in most Asian countries as well?).

The minimum octane available in where I live is 98 for ROM -- that equates to approximately 94 for R+M/2 (which is the scale that America uses on the pumps). With that, I do fill up my tank with "cheap" gas here, and that is about US$2/litre, or US$8/gallon ...
