I haven't seen anything written about the change in entry/exit between the cars. I noticed getting in and out of the AP1 seemed more difficult than the AP2, that the front of the door of the AP1 seems to be farther backward so there's a smaller area to get in and out.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me?

 

AP1 and AP2 door panels are swappable, so there won't be much difference.

 

The AP2 seats feel more supportive to me, so maybe that's what you're feeling?

 

One does not enter either of these cars. One puts then on rather like a pair of tight jeans. Once settled in everything is fine.

Yeah, except if you use them as a daily driver you might pick the one that's easiest to get in and out of. I'm thinking it may be due to driver seating as much as the door position. I'll see if I can illustrate this better when I'm home.

 

There's basically no difference. Almost everything is swappable between AP1 and AP2, only minor differences like the mesh pocket in the door panel etc. 00-01 is roomiest once you're in the car because the center console is just carpet, the larger AP2 center console eats into your legroom.

 

There was mention of one of the ap2 changes being more 'shoulder' room. I was under the impression this was due to changes in door panel. Perhaps thos accounts for entry differences noted?

I imagine ones bulk, and where ones bulk is concentrated (how high up), would be a factor if this is the case. Meaning for some there would be no discernable difference ap1 vs ap2, but for others there would be.

I can't remember the exact year they changed it but at some point (2006+ or 2008+) the seats sit higher

 

OK, here's specifically what I noticed: In the 2000-2001 years, when I go to get out of the car, it feels like I have to step backwards to get out. Or if I turn sideways in the seat so I'm facing the door directly, I still have to step out to the left and the steering wheel is a bit in my right side. For the track it's perfect, for grocery getting not so much. I'm 5'10 and 165lbs, so i'm not a big guy, but I do have a longer torso.

The 2004, 2005 model years don't appear to have this restriction, and the 2007 is even easier. So I'm wondering if the change is due to the seat and the AP1 seats could be swapped for later model seats, or if there are additional changes making it tighter to enter and exit the early year models?
