Not here - I prefer the AP1's cleaner more simplistic styling and 9k red line. If my S were a daily driver I would prefer the AP2 for its refinements.
So, love the simple styling and redline, hate the lack of refinements - see, love hate relationship!

I had an '03 for a couple years and my girlfriend has an '05. At first I would always tease her about the lower redline on her car and how her car felt muzzled when compared to mine. I've been out of an S for a little while now and wanted to drive an AP1 again to see if I still wanted it. I drove my buddy's '03 then drove my girlfriend's '05 immediately afterward. I prefer the AP2 for daily driving now. It's just a nicer car all around. I'll be getting an 06+ for my next S, but the AP1 will always be my first love, haha.

very nice write up and interesting comparison from a personal experience.

now, my questions is which one is better for FI (SC or turbo), AP1 or AP2?

Please refer to the following calculator to compare the piston speeds:

glad you had fun in my s2000 alan!!! My motor only has 8000 miles on it, so its still fresh. I love ap1 chassis and motor, but ap2 looks. Thats why i have the best of both worlds!

All depends on what you want. If I can have a separate pure "toy" car why would it be a S2K rather than Elise or Atom?
The s2k does cost a *bit* less than those two options

I feel like all AP1 owners have a love/hate relationship with their cars, myself included.
Not all - not me.
If I were to get an AP2, I'd do a lot to make it more like an AP1. Hondata reflash for higher redline. Lighter flywheel. More aggressive suspension (unless we're talking the CR.) Quicker steering rack (which the CR has.) Taller secondary reduction gear in the transmission (although I probably wouldn't actually change that due to the cost involved.) I can't really think of anything on the AP1 I "hate" that I wouldn't also hate on an AP2.

... Love / hate, like I said.

But it's also not necessarily love this, hate that. It can be love sometimes, hate sometimes.

I wouldn't get an AP2 to begin with, so I wouldn't need to change anything but I'm sure if you really think, I'm sure you could find something that applies to this situation.

I see where you're coming from though

The piston speed of an F20 at 9k is about the same as the piston speed of an F22 at 8.5k.
the piston speed of the F20c at 9k rpm is the same as the piston speed of a ferrari F1 engine at 18,500 rpm
