I think by quicker steering you mean less nervous steering - its all a state of mind when you approach an S2000. Some people want a challenge in a car, some people want a reward, and what that means exactly only the individual can divine - for some people a challenge is a reward.
Actually, I was talking about the ratio of the steering rack when I said the steering was quicker, but yea, it's all a matter of what one is looking for in a car. The quick steering and light flywheel would just be stupid on a Benz, and I can't say that I enjoy the Benz any less than the S2000. They're just different, and their differences make them both more enjoyable.

As far as challenges go, driving any car is a challenge. It's just a matter of degree, and whether or not a particular type of challenge appeals to a given individual. One of the most challenging cars I ever autocrossed was a Mercury Maverick.

Last night I visited my own Web site (something I hardly ever do) to look at the latest S2000 reports from DragTimes. As it turns out, the quickest quarter mile time (which the OP asked about) recorded for a near stock AP1 is a few HUNDREDTHS of a second quicker than the quickest recorded time by a near stock AP2 (and both cars had essentially the same mods). Either car can break 13.8 in the quarter, but very few S20000 owners can get below 14.2, and the same thing is true in autocrossing; The driver makes a much bigger difference than the car.

Thunder (a second gen Miata) will out corner, out accelerate, and just plain run away from any stock S2000, and even including all the mods I think there is less than half the price of an S2000 tied up in the little Miata. That's one reason I don't understand why so many people ask about quarter mile times and such. Who cares if an AP1 is faster than an AP2 when a friggin' Miata can blow them both in the weeds?
