Yeah man honda is number 1 or 2 for the highest ranked automaker in the world for reliabilty.

 

I think somone had some major mods on there before you got it and since they knew it was going to be sold, did a hackjob in replacing the oem parts. at least if you get it fixed you can recoop some money, some cars people just dont want so you pay to fix and its still worthless

 

First off. Spend more time reading, and you could answer you're question about breaking and AP1's. There is also a guide to what to look for when buying and S2k.
Second, sh!t happens.
Third relax. I know you're emotionally involved, but that's not going to change the choice you made to buy a car that was possibly questionable.
Make the fixes, and enjoy the car until you unload it (to recoup some of the costs)or start your love affair like the rest of us.

 

Sitting on an 02 ap1 with only needing to replace a coil pack. Other than that, it's treating me well. Only check engine light was a misfire from that bad coil pack. Prior owner must've sucked big nuts.

 

Ten years and 110,000 miles. Its not always easy to spot fatigue. Plus, out of those ten years, you know almost nothing of what that car has seen.

A quick scan of the threads would easily answer your question. If it was a rampant problem there'd be nothing but AP1 problem threads. Don't assume trends based on a single data point -- especially when you don't even know the full history of that data point.

 

If an 11 year old car looks like its never seen rain when jacked up and you bought it from a dealer it probably means the dealer thoroughly cleaned and possibly other finishing jobs on the car before selling it. Its easy to clean a car up thats been beat on

 

I did alot of reading, trust me, I don't buy cars without out research. I noticed alot of differential issues, mine had an issue and I fixed it, I'm more upset about the nut failing. That shouldn't ever happen on any car, old or new, beaten or pampered, it was sold from an honda dealer right before I bought it and car fax says it had been checked out by them, I would presume a car ment for profromance would have had the suspension checked. I doesn't really even have a questionable past, the car fax showed that is was serviced mainly by dealers, from my experience with my 06 civic SI, honda dealers do very good work and don't screw you. Sorry if this offended some of you guys, I'm just stressed out and upset that my car is having so many issues.

 

No dealer will take apart the suspension to check it. They do a visual inspection. A visual inspection 2 months before won't be able to spot a bolt that will fail.

For the record, my AP1 has 147k miles and I've yet to break anything. Still on the original engine, tranny, diff, & clutch.
