so AP2's only have a whole 2700 rpms of Vtec? while AP1s have 3K+? O_o, must suck jk.

Not to steal OP's thread, but isnt the reason the Vtec engage points are there because the torque is ~the same (smoother transition?)

Used emanage to try to lower VTEC engagement. Got it down to 5500. Anything below that and the engine throws a CEL and goes into limp mode.
not sure on the 06+ cars, but mine was set at 4k rpm using an Emanage ultimate.

Vtec is at 6k on a stock ecu
But wasn't it 6k on the AP1? Would they not want to lower it for the AP2? Only 2k in VTEC seems kind of a rip.

Anyone know where the revs drop after each gear when shifted at redline in the AP2? I can't find a calculator that shows rev/speed properly for the AP2 S2k.

One thing that you'll want to remember is that AP1 actually redlines at 8.7k, not really 9k, right? There's an .8k difference, not a full 1k like most people say. The AP1 hits rev limiter at 9k and 8.2k on the AP2, I've read. Correct me if I'm wrong, please.

And I know they don't put VTEC too low because they don't have optimum performance in mind, but rather noise/comfort/things old people like. Peak power is all that marketers care about so for all they care, it could hit VTEC 1k before redline. Most wouldn't notice (not us of course).

Ya, the difference in fuel-cut isn't as big as what most people think it is.

Anyway, this website will tell you where you will be after shifting through each gear:

It is a little weird how Honda didn't lower the VTEC kick in for the AP2 though. I suppose the test drivers for Honda never found that an issue, and they do shift very religiously on the track ... and also AP2's VTEC engages very smoothly, so even if the car falls out of VTEC for split second and comes back, it won't affect the driving. Where as AP1's rough engagement / kick-in makes that a bit dangerous ...

So much for all that 9k RPM marketing. Sure was enticing though back in the day before I rode a bike!

In the year 2000, 9k rpm was kinda stunning.
Today alot more cars have redline at maybe 7-7,5k rpm making 9k not that special anymore. I still like the 9k rpm engine.
