AP3
Guys lets be realistic, for all of you who want weight reductions, it's probably not going to happen with all the federal regulations (safety, emission, etc ) Think about it, cars these days have to be safer, have more electronic gizmos, more smog equip which only means one thing, that its going to be heavier.
If honda were to make an ap3 the specs would be something like this:
2.2L 260-270hp i-vtec
8000k redline
a bit more tq
same weight if not heavier
6 spd
power everything
more safety and emissions equipment
more luxury
the luxury is mostly because Americans like to be comfortable in a car and that's what sells

I like the Type R idea. I think, if they were to make a new S2000, make it lighter and go back to the 2.0 L or to a motor with even less displacement. Hell, look what people are doing with B-Series motors everyday. Low displacement, high revving, LIGHT. The S2000 was never engineered to be a "hey, lets go to the drag strip" car. People make them into that and I don't have a problem with it, but it was engineered and designed at Suzuka(Japanese Grand Prix site). It was made to be an everyday car with F1 charactoristics. It's light and handles like a dream. Do you know how much advantage that gives you while driving some windy back road? There's no feeling of coming into a turn, rev matching down a gear, holding at 7k and just accelerating throught the apex. There's no feeling that can compare to that. A V6 would make it like a 350z or more so, a 350z roadster (god forbid). Heavy, low redline, bulky, feels like your going to flip it even attempting to do what the s2000 can in cornering.
Anyway, I love the S2k exactly how it is. If you want something crazy, go buy an Ariel Atom.

John,
I honestly don't think Honda was / is the slightest bit concerned about making the S2000 be palatable to a wide audience. The car was designed with single-minded intent, and arguably remains so.

I would not be interested. I'm not buying another convertible as I have no intention of letting my '02 S2000 go. When I need a newer track car I will be going with a fixed roof vehicle more organizations accept them.

If an ap3 rolled out that was pretty similar to the ap2, with a bit more power and torque, not necessarily a v6, just something more powerful, I would buy it.
My preference would be a F/I 2.0L, and be along the lines as the current gen as far as styling and price.
