The way that Honda stands behind its products gave me the confidence to get a brand new, first-year-production model. After nearly 14K miles I have no problems to report as of yet (I'm knocking wood here, too.). If only life could be as reliable as a Honda.

I'm also a very happy Stook owner but don't forget MX5Dood (trying to talk like a yank here guys rather than saying Jood) the Stook is a completely new vehicle from the ground up (Ok, Ok, I'll accept the power window switches are straight out of a Civic).

Compare this to the MX5 which basically used a Mazda 323 (in the US I think you called it a GLT) motor albeit turned through 90 degrees for rear wheel drive. So of course the MX5 is more reliable, because it used tried and proven parts.

Come on guys, the MX5/Miata was found to be the most reliable car in its category, that is the roadsters one on the JD Powers survey. Of course, as i previously mentioned there are always bad apples out there..miatas or stooks or boxsters or whatever..

On the driving side, of course there

It seems (but i'm not sure as i don't see any reason for it) that European stook's are more reliable than the US ones. I have 32,000 miles on mine at the moment and not a single problem (knock wood). Another guy from Belgium had about 35,000 miles without trouble when he crashed his stook. I know that these 2 specific cases don't proove anything but I'm always quite surprised when I read about all the problems stated in this forum.

MX5DUDE, since u are so much in love with your miata and its reliability, i think u should buy another one. then we'll go to the twisties for a little fun. don't get me wrong. i know that miatas handling is very sharp, but u are not going to be on a very twisty and slow road all the time.

I think you need to keep the comparisons of the Miata with it's direct compeditors such as the Del Sol VTEC (more so now, the MR. 2). Comparing it to The S2000 is just not right. 2 magazines did direct comparisons between the del Sol VTEC and Miata. Car and Driver did a "Sports Car" comparison and found the del Sol superior in every way however they felt the Miata was more of a sports car and it won by 1 point out of 100 because of this and other creative methods. Motor Trend was the second and they were not so impeded by the "sports" car definition, the del Sol clearly had superior numbers and it won their comparison. Now to apply this to reliability. Now, the 93 first year del Sol was racked with problems relating to its roof. By 94 Honda released a $1000 pack of seals that fixed and top problems as long as the owner of course maintained the seals and top. The 94-97 (not the 93) del Sol was rated as you would expect much higher in reliability then the Miata. Magazines such as Consumer reports lists these models in the small pack of great used reliable purchase's. I have not seen the Miata listed.

the S2000 will be no different, the first year of production will have problems, Honda will fix the problems by the next year and apply these to the first year.

I now know del Sol VTEC (note: 8,200 RPM 100hp/liter)owners who bounce of the red line daily with 200,000 miles on the engine without a single problem. The S2000 will follow this line.

Let us not forget the initial run of 1991 NSXs introduced in the USA had two very significant defects:
1. The window regulators failed requiring replacement.
2. The transmision snap ring failed requiring either costly prevention or replacement.
Once these defects were recognized and reversed, the NSX has been virtually trouble-free. It is amazing to me (especially after my experiences with Dodge {Viper}, Ferrari and Porsche) that none of my NSXs (92,95,00) ever required anything but routine maintenance.

NSXER => Consumer reports a few years back rated the NSX as THE most reliable car in their ratings of cars that had been on the road for 5 years (or 5 years with the least amount of problems)... Considering the technology used, that is a great statement for Honda. You need full time mechanics for the other cars in it's class.
