Arresting for racing in S2K...
Just a friendly warning to fellow Stook owners. You can get arrested (at least in Houston) for racing. I was arrested Thursday night for "reckless driving" for going 65 in a 45 while racing. Possibly the rain was the parameter that warranted arrest - but I'll be fighting in court, with a lawyer. Before anyone asks, no there isn't anything else to the story. We didn't run from the cops, we didn't spin out, we didn't drive in turning lanes or in oncoming traffic. I just gassed it enough to show the weak Civic next to me that he was no competition, never went over 70 MPH. Arrested at 10:00 PM, released at 1:00 PM next day. Released on free bond of good will. Starting to hate cops.

uhmmmm are you sure that was legal? I've only been ticketed for racing (two or three times, can't remember). But its my understanding that when pressured to make racing a class B misdemeanor which they could take you to jail for, but to my knowledge its still a class C misdemeanor, which they can only ticket you for. However, this is Houston and you shouldn't get me started about Houston cops...bad bad bad bad memories. =/
it's exactly the same way up here in vancouver, bc..the cops have really tightened down on street racing and 'stunting'..if they see you racing, it's an automatic suspension of your license and they impound your car right away..kinda sucks because i like to drive a little over the speed limit BUT i have to live with it and it's good for everyone else..i see some idiots totally speeding around residential areas..some people are gonna get killed and some have..a couple of months ago, a porsche boxter, rx7 and a bmw were racing and the porsche hit some guy..i think he flew like a block or two..drive safely man!
one other comment I should make -
One evening I was racing in Austin. I had two guys in the back of the Mustang and a passenger up front. After winning three times, we got pulled over by a few cops - I admit it, I was caught and didn't want to run this time. The other two guys ran but they eventually caught up with him. The officer said a few things that bothered me. He asked if I had been drinking that evening, I responded - no. Has anyone else been drinking this evening, I resopnded - I do not know. He said, well, if someone has been drinking then you will go to jail with them. I responded respectfully, Actually sir - I'm only responsible for my passengers wearing their seatbelts, and if one of them has been drinking and I'm being a designated driver, then I'm being the responsible one and should not be going to jail.
The other thing the officer said was 'you are going to jail for racing!' I responded with, in Texas, racing is still a class C misdemeanor.
By this time, he knew I was honest by pulling over, and I knew the limits of the law. He gave me a ticket and let me go. I contested it and the cop never showed, so it wasn't put on my record.
One funny thing about that ticket - when we were pulled over, he asked 'do you know that I'm pulling you over for racing?', and the guy in the back seat, Ben, responded, 'But we won!'

Consider the fact that in my area, if your car is stolen, the coppers now send you a form in the mail to be filled out in 24 hours. What is the price that traveling in a car made to do 150 MPH, 60 in a 50 mph zone to the continuation of our society??? We cant get police to investigate true problems in society like arresting a criminal who steals cars but they spend endless amounts of money giving "criminals" who do a rolling stop at a stop sign. Where did police agencies go wrong??? A local gang breaks into your car and every car in your neighborhood for a year, no police. You don
