Arresting for racing in S2K...
H2000 and I had spoken about this kind of police harshness before.
Houston has adopted a zero-tolerance policy on speeding, racing, changing lanes without a signal, and 'road-rage'. They have created a task force specifically for these kind of things.
One day, on my way to work, there was about 40-60 cop cars within a 20 mile stretch of Beltway 8. They were on the main lanes and the feeders. Each overpass had cops with radar, and further up would be somebody who had already been pulled over. This was on every overpass and every straightaway. I must have seen 10-15 people pulled over that morning. It was like martial law was enacted.
Anyway, it was on the 5pm news broadcast and that's how I found out about the new task force. The bad thing is that some of the cars are unmarked. If they didn't have TEXAS EXEMPT license plates and the radar units onboard, you would never know.
If you're in Houston, watch out!!

I used to street race in Austin and did get pulled over a few times. This was back when the hang out was on the corner of 6th and Lavaca (I think thats it, there is a Post Office there now).
I never got arrested per se, but was told that I could go to jail for it.
Thinking back, it was pretty stupid to be racing from light to light downtown, but atleast I won a fair share of races in my Sentra SE-R. Mostly because I could brake later than the Mustangs
anyhow, a friend of mine with a 99 SS in Austin got arrested for racing. This was on the South part of Mopac (for you Austinites). They were doing over 100, and did race from a standstill as well. They did it several times (once with the cop right behind them, which is stupid but I guess you dont think a cop is RIGHT behind you).
anyhow, the reason my friend went to jail (he said the cop told him) was because of "reckless driving"...
btw, did they tow your S2K?

s2k_cls - yup, I know the spot very well. Back in college days, I took my mustang down there and my roomie took down his green/grey (I hate two tone cars!) typhoon. had a lot of fun, but heck, back then I couldn't afford the gas to go waaaaay out in the sticks racing with everyone else, so I mainly rode in my roomie's car at the time.
Wesmaster,
Sorry to hear that man. Houston cops hate street racers.
I better chill out, last night after the clubs...I raced an Audi TT, Firebird, and a MR2 turbo.
We should go rollin sometime bud.

Houston cops hate street racers? Well, that brings back bad memories with HPD. I remember being pulled over in my Mustang with a passenger and his 12 year old brother. We were just driving to Taco Cabana, but little did we know, it was a setup, because they had just busted a parking lot just west of West Oaks Mall (I used to live in Pecan Grove if you know where that is, so you can sense my route that way) - so, we get pulled over, searched, even 12 year old Russel at the time - he's freaking out, they are going to lock us all up in the slammer because its past curfew and we are not his legal guardians. They gave me four tickets. Once I got to court, the officer that showed up - he wasn't any of the 6 that were on the scene. He claimed he got us on radar for going so much more - and he wasn't certified NOR was he equipped with radar of any kind. So, then he said he was following me and tracked me by his own speedo - actually this can't be possible since he pulled me over outside of his jurisdiction and that would mean he followed me from WAY outside his jurisdiction.
Funny note - as we went through each of the trials (by judge, because I didn't know better at the time) - I watched over months, as he grew out his studly mustache. Young pup on the force, other cops were just trying to give him a hand at getting his first ticket.
Well...want to know what happened? With my witness in court, in the second appeal - I finally had the guy cornered - I had him ALMOST admitting to the ticket being falsified 100% - I was found guilty and had to pay one fine for one ticket - all other charges dropped - that one fine was for 10 miles over the speed limit - $480.00 - ouch!

This is another reason I cannot stand HPD. At least during the times I've been stopped in Austin, even the one time for racing, they give you as much respect as you do them. I could tell you about all the times I got off with warnings in Austin, but all in all, they have displayed decent behaviour for the most part.
okay sorry I'm done venting now.

[green]Damn Schatten: I thought I haad you in that Mustang! Just kidding. I did own a DPS Mustang back in 1990. It was really fast but squirely as hell. I don't remember ever having any run ins with the police while racing, even though I was rather "out of control" most of the time. It was fun to drive.[/green]
