Default Article about S2000 Seat Theft from Newpaper

There was an article in today's Sun-Sentinel in the Boca Raton Times section about a recent rash of S2000 seat and gearknob thefts in the area. I figured folks on here might like to read it. It must be getting common if they are running articles.

Sorry I had to scan it, this section isnt one of the ones posted on the net. Just click the image to read the article. I know the guy in the picture is a member on the board.

Isn't it nice how it's suddenly the owner's fault.

I'd like to know how the S2000 is a 20 second to steal car. The advent of microchip keys makes the whole process of stealing a car a lot tougher. You'd have to bring in a whole new ECU with the appropriate key cause you can't easily bypass the stock ignition kill system (it turns off the fuel pump and ignition).

You could always tow, but I want to know how else you could easily steal the car (there is always a way).

Cut the top, release the handbrake and either tow the car or put it on a flatbed. If there is more than one person, you can do it in under a minute.

My seats and shiftknob were stolen not too long ago. Thieves slashed the top, unlocked the car, and did their thing. My insurance took care of everything, but it was heartbreaking to see the car in that shape.

And interestingly enough, about a month after the incident, my friend noticed that someone was selling black S2000 seats on a Prelude board in the same city that I live in. The moderators removed the thread before I had a chance to snoop around, though.

I think the time will come when a VIN# may be required to go along with the stock parts you are selling.
