I'd look for a late model '02 or an '03. These years have worked out all the bugs and have certain upgrades:

-Glass rear window
-oil jet bolts upgraded
-better stereo system
-better clutch
-better trans.(synchros)

I'm sure there's a few more that I can't think of right now.

I wouldn't buy an '04. It's a nice car but there aren't enough "improvements" to buy new. You should be able to get a nice price for a used one now.

From my participation here I'd have to say that more S2K's DON'T consume oil than do. You just happen to hear about the problems more than you hear the successes (as is human nature). This is a special car and I feel like a very large amount of those that buy it treat it as such, so you really shouldn't have too much to worry about as far as the oil "having run dry".

That said, it's always a good idea to take a potential used car to a mechanic if you are uncertain or unfamiliar with general car mechanics.

Good Luck, Travis

Get a MY00. You get the best price for the same car and you get the wicked tail and stiffer suspension. Forget the rear window. The MY00 is the real deal.

The MY03 has all the improvements from the begining, plus the 9k redline and if you're lucky there might be one or two new 03's left somewhere

Happy hunting-

What is "the wicked tail?"

I have a MY00...

PS - the 02/03 has a more agressive ECU, chrome rings around the tail lights, and a leather shift knob.

I have an 01 and I love it.

The glass rear window is nice, however you do get reduced window size and reduced visability because of it. I put a window mat in mine and polish it twice a year and think its fine.

Good luck with your decision.

I've read that the MY00's are known to break loose in the rear quicker than other MY's. Which is fun if you like sliding around and stuff. My car's ride is tough now, but when I get rid of my civic for a 5 series, I will love jumping into my rough little S.
