Atomic and Charles Madrid are one of the most reputable shops for Hondas. Charles is responsible for many of the 10 second FWD dragsters out there, and was a "pioneer" of late model Honda engine swaps. they have an in-house dynojet, and i'm sure their S2k wont disappoint.

Sure they can get 400+hp but how long is it gonna run at that level? 20,000 miles?!

400 hp isn't so hard to beleive. Compared to the 340 hp Comptech SC, this system _should_ have less parasitic loss (no belt drive to worry about), cooler charge temps (IC), higher boost (thanks to cooler temps) and more optimized engine control. All that could easily result in another 40-50 hp.

However, this car has been waiting for an ECU for a very long time. Don't know where they are getting it, but I'll wait till the project is finished and being driven before I get too excited.

The biggest advantage of a project like this is that even if they tuned it down to 350 hp, there should be nice gains from 3000 rpm on up with big torque once the turbo spools. The downside is that you won't have thta nice flat torque curve anymore (hard to complain when you have that much power though).

They turbo'ed that car a LONG time ago and have been BSing about needing to get an ECU for it for over a year now. If you have an in-house dyno and a turbo S2000 sitting on your hands for over a year, don't you think you'd throw it on there just once to see what it does? Of course you would. They don't talk about the dyno results because it didn't make power. I've heard rumors that it made next to nothing power-wise. Sure, if they Motec it and tune it real well, I'm sure they will make more power, but I think mid 400's is not just optimistic, it's totally unrealistic and they shouldn't go around talking like that until they can do it - it's bad for their reputation.

BTW, since you're on the subject of parasitic loss from the SC belt... the belt drive of a SC has about the same loss as an air conditioner. But do you really think there is no loss in running a turbo??? I personally had a very nice set of headers made for my car last year and lost 13 RWHP with them (yes, I got rid of them immediately). Those were well designed headers. Wanna guess how much power you lose with a turbo manifold in place of a header?? I'll give you a hint - a lot more than 13 hp. And as for cooling... With a turbo, not only do you get heat from compressing the air (a natural effect), you get heat from bearings, AND you get lots of heat because the exhaust is passing through the turbo making it hot and all your intake piping has to pass within a couple inches of your exhaust piping. Once you intercool it, you bring the temp back down some, but you can do the same with a centrifugal SC and not have to worry about totally f*cking up your exhaust tuning.

So if stock S2000s can blow rear ends

the Comptech SC with 340hp can blow rear ends faster

how fast can the turbo S2000 blow a rear end?

Go get 'em, Reverend.

You said your header lost 13rwhp. Did it gain any torque? Change the curve at all? Or was it really that bad in that you lost power everywhere?

I agree with the concerns raised above. I'm also interested to know about the survival of the stock rear diff/rear end!

Seems that the best things to do to the S2000 engine is to keep it l'natural. I think it is also the most cost effective way too:

Well constructed headers and exhaust system
Toda camshafts (when they are released)
Lower temperature thermostat
Intake (JR or cold air type)
Modified ECU
Ported TB

How does this sound?

Cheers,
