Default August Motor Trend

In the new Motor Trend they have shoot out between Corvette ZO6, BMW M3, and Boxter S. They said they choose these cars because they are "very different from each other." As I was reading the article, I couldn't help but to think to my self how Boxter S should have been S2000. Oh well...

I just saw that shoot out on Speedvision, I think it was the Motor Trend piece. The Z06 destroyed the M3 and the Boxster S. The Z06 hit 60 in the low 4s, and did the 1/4 in 12.6 and 113 mph. The Boxster was the slug of the group doing 60 in 5.39 and the 1/4 in 13.8 and change. They noted that the Boxster suffered from significant rear axle tramp on take offs. Maybe if MT could find the S2000 they tested at 5.2 to 60 and 13.8 in the 1/4, then the S2000 could have come in a respectable third out of three. (S2000 might have taken the slalom)

They tried out the new 2002 Z06 (405 HP) and report Chevy claims it will do 60 in under 4 seconds. Zowie!

2x6spds,

I saw that piece last night and was thinking the same thing. The S2000 might have taken the slalom.

I want a beater 2002 Z06!

I also saw the show last night. It is amazing how far the Z06 has come to become a world-class sportscar contender! And then they keep piling it on with more hp next year!

I was surprised that the Boxster did not best the M3 on the track or the slalom. I would have thought it's lower weight, lower CG and mid-engine handling would have put it ahead of the M3.

By most measures, the S2K is equal or out-performed by the Boxster S, so if it was included in the test, I'm afraid it would have come in no better than third, likely dead last.

It's not really an indictment of the S2000, but more a testament to just how strong performing the new M3 and Z06 are...

Just out of curiosity, what was the program on Speedvision last night called? I don't remember seeing it in the onscreen guide.

Thanks!

Though I don't read them from cover to cover, I do have occasion to look at most of the major car mags each month and I've noticed that there is very little coverage of the S2000. I've seen comparisons of MR2s and Miatas of Boxsters and BMWs of Audi TTs and Mercs of various import and sports car categories but they rarely (like maybe once) include the S2000. Is our beloved S2000 so unique that it brooks comparison with any other interal combusion vehicle? Or is it the case that the trade press is purposely excluding coverage of the S2000 for some nefarious purpose? Again, I'm not a car nut and I only read the car mags while sitting in the lobby of my detailing shop (every Wednesday at 11:00 am ), but it would be nice to read a little objective professional analysis of my choice of automobile. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to start our own mag!

So, in the "Performance Shootout" which the Z06 won hands down, they picked the M3 as the winner because it has four seats?

I also noticed that the quality of the road course driving was pitiful. Beginner stuff. Really gives an insight about their testing ability.

That piece was BS, the Vette mops the floor with the Boxer and the M3. The Z06 won EVERY (ok one tie) performance category and the pick M3 becuse it seats 4 and has a big trunk.

super weak...

yeah.. it didn't make sense... even though the m3 got stomped in everyway.. it wins cause it has a back seat.

i was impressed w/ the 13.1 1/4 time the m3 pulled though.. before i'd seen a 13.5 from it..
