Autobacs is coming to California !!!
I recently read in the Orange County Business Journal that Autobacs Seven Co.
is building it's first USA location here in California. It will be interesting to see
what they will offer. The article also stated that construction should be completed
in August '02.
Here's part of the article:

Japan-Based Auto Repair Chain to Open Shop
STANTON, CA-An automotive repair chain based in Tokyo, Japan has chosen Stanton as the site of its first North American location. The company, Autobacs Seven Co. Ltd., plans to open its first shop here by the end of the summer.
The new Autobacs location is rising at the site of a former movie theater, which is being reconstructed by Snyder Langston. The construction company has already demolished the facade of the building, masonry-bearing walls, countertops, stairwells, restrooms and sloped floors. It plans to complete the $4.5-million reconstruction project by August 2002.
Upon completion, the one-story auto repair shop will encompass 43,584 sf, including 4,300 sf of new office space. The Autobacs shop will include a garage with pit services and a mezzanine waiting area. The mezzanine section will feature a 100-ft catwalk, which will enable customers to watch the technicians as they work on vehicles.

if history is anything to be based on, it'll probably drive out small businesses in the vicinity (if they are parts oriented instead of service oriented)
i heard it's like a Wal-Mart of aftermarket parts.

We went to Super Autobacs in Tokyo, and MAN was that a cool experience! There was virtually nothing you couldn't get there, and the "bookstore" section was good for hours of just sitting on the floor and reading!
Seriously cool stuff... I want one in Texas!

That's freakin sweet, I know exactly where that is. I think the movie theatre they're building over is on Beach Blvd, and used to play old Bollywood flicks. Anways, can't wait to see it, gettin a taste of Tokyo here ghetto ass Stanton!!!

But it sounds like it'll be more of a service department rather than a performance parts retailer?
