Default Automatic Transmission in S2000

I was talking with a car salesman about my S2000 while my wife and I were shopping for a new Chevy.

His comment about the S2000 was that if Honda had provided an automatic transmission as an option Honda would have sold more cars.

What's your opinion?

Lol i don't think so... I can't imagine an automatic transmission that they would offer in 2000, a nice paddle shifter transmissions they offer today would be cool tho.

The s2000 would have sucked so bad with an auto transmission. But I do agree that if it was offered a lot more s2000's would have been sold. Americans in general do not drive or care about driving stick shift.

Probably true, but not a very astute observation. Keep in mind this is a car salesman, not necessary an enthusiast.

I was shopping at a Porsche dealer and the salesman bashed the S2000 for being a front-engine car. I told him it is actually a mid-engine car and he just didn't get it.

All he could do is come up with other ways to put my car down - his way of selling me an upgrade I suppose. It was quite a turn-off. Instead, he should appreciate what's unique about my car and start the discussion with a mutual appreciation for special cars.

The S2000 is for the most-part a stripped-down single-purpose limited run car that does a reasonably good job at being a daily driver. No automatic necessary for my sale.

I'm sure the automatic would have appealed to those that can't drive a standard, for me if back in the day the dealer only had an automatic on the lot I would have looked elsewhere. Or to put it another way...if the S only came with an automatic I wouldn't have bought one.

Would have sold a lot more cars -- if the production line could produce them. College girls -- the target audience for an AT S2000 -- are not famous for their stick shift skills. Miata sales should provide a barometer. Look at the years the AT was available.

Paddle shifters? Why shift an automatic by hand?

It probably would have led to higher sales, but it would not have saved the S2000. The fate of the S2000 would have been the exact same.

Wasn't it stated before that the s2000 lasted longer than it was intended to? Wasn't it supposed to end with the ap1?

If that's true, we did pretty good with another 6 years lol.

As noted above car salesman sell cars, lots of them do not know anything about cars, just a pay check.

Would at AT S still have a start button? What would VTAAAAAAAAAAACH be like in a AT I do not even want to think about it.
