Default Average cost of upgrade to glass rear window

Hello every one! I searched on the subject but got many random results. I have been looking far and wide [near my home ] now for two months trying to find either a berlina black or silverstone 02+ with decent miles for under $19k, but it seems I cant find the right deal. So I'm gettin desperate and lookin at the 2001+ now. What is the cheapest way to change the soft top from plastic to glass rear window. And if there is a DIY way, how hard is it? What is the average cost for people who have done it?

Also, the ricks leather up grade for the center console, is that just a cover or an actual replacement? What do yo guys think, wait for the right 02+ to roll around or find a decent deal on a 01?

Well, you have to replace the whole top and add a couple elastic bands to make sure the top folds down correctly so the glass doesn't break...

It's upwards of $1k

I am kinda in the same boat (and kinda leaning more to holding on to my A4 now ), but why not use the saving from getting a '01 to getting a hardtop? I don't know about you, but when it is not cold, I will probably be driving with the top down most of the time, where a glass rear window does not really make a difference. And when it hits rain/snow/cold season, I'd just put the hard top on.

Anyhow, I don't see the reason for the price jump in from from 00/01 to 02 among private sellers I have been checking out... seems like a giant premium for glass rear windows.

not the only reason...00/01 have more TSB's, carpet interior.....just a few minor differences not too mention the fact that the 00/01 is obviously older (not saying that to be a smart a$$ but just another factor is $ difference)

seems to be about a $3K diff in prices between 01 and 02 in my area. It's not that huge.

Yeh Kayvan, I gotz your mail, just not gotten around to replying yet. I have no clue how much the Mugen tops cost, my guess is a lot more than the OEM one

And maybe I am wrong, but don't they come in two versions? CF and Fiberglass? I would think the CF one would cost A LOT.

I was thinking more in line of the OEM hardtop, which I think looks incredibly nice.

Fiberglass Mugen, last time I heard was around $3500, $5000 for CF.
OEM is a better hardtop interior wise and cheaper than both.

Anyway, www.cabrioworld.com has actual canvas tops for the S with a glass rear window designed to be an upgrade for ~$700. A bit extra here and there for the elastic and you're set. I'll probably try this way when it becomes time to replace either the window or top on my 01.

I love my MY00 and the plastic rear window does not bother me a bit. You just need to keep it conditioned and it will look as good as new. Mine is 5 years old and you can not even tell! Not to mention that MY 00-01 are still S2000 and a great car. Don't age discriminate, appreciate.

got my plastic to glass conversion done for free under HondaCare because of the "wear holes" issue

it is possible to do it yourself, but after watching the dealer and upholsterer go through it, unless you really know what you're doing, I'd get someone to do it.
