40 mph in 6th, yes even Honda recommends driving in the highest gear as possible for fuel economy.

i dont keep it below 3000 - lugs the motor
3500 is good area for decent engine response
40mph in 4th, 55mph in 6th

didnt buy an s2000 to lug it around

Regarding the "recommended shift points" and efficiency,
I rather doubt that cruising (not accelerating) in 5th instead of 6th at less than 52mph would yield better fuel economy. But I'm willing to try it. For my commute on backroads, I'm frequently at 35-45mph cruise in 6th gear. Obviously, you wouldn't want to try to accelerate in 6th gear at those speeds. But for the low power required to maintain cruise, I bet it's more efficient in 6th. We shall see...

FWIW, my last tankful got me 333.2 miles on 11.2 gallons. Best tankful got me 350.8 miles on 10.8 gallons.

I'll see how far I get on this tank for the exact same commute usage without using 6th gear. I expect much worse fuel economy, but again, we shall see...

Wow...40 MPH in 6th?? I'm never above 4th at 40 MPH. Seems like the engine would be dragging. But I guess if it's a sustained 40 MPH it would work, since some of you are doing it. I like driving at higher RPMs - the car is made for that! Honestly, in a car like the S, fuel efficiency isn't the first thing that springs to mind.

As he states, these are the numbers quoted by Honda. These are the appropriate shift points for best MPG. I would not recomment cruising below these numbers as you will be putting strain on the engine. 40 in 6th is bad. Stop doing that.

Dang, maybe this is why I consistently get 20mpg. I guess I've gotta be in 6th around town at 40mph. Probably not gonna do it though. I don't think I ever hit 6th gear untill I'm over 60mph!
