Even my wife thinks S2K-DJ is lying about using VTEC 80% of the time for 50k miles. That simply cannot be true unless all 50k miles were track miles, and I have no use for people who will make up lies to prove a point.
Making up lies? Oh come on. You don't know me, so don't judge me. I was telling a story about my previous experience with my 01, which I admit, I drove very hard, often above 6krpms. I went to car meets, drove around with friends often with high torque, easy to go fats in cars, and I had to drive it that way to keep up. The S2K is a car you need to earn to go fast in. You just don't mash the pedal and go.

80% and 50k miles wasn't what I did, although with my 15mpg during my 35k miles of driving it, it sure feels like 80%. That was just to prove a point, which I shouldn't have done. You got under my skin, because you tried arguing a non arguable statement, but you're obviously a skilled internet debater who spends a lot of time on here, so I won't go there. YOU WIN!!!

Anyway, I can't get offended if people call me a bullshitter, so my bad. I told a true story, I used an exxageration to prove a point to you, and if it offended I'm sorry. PEACE!!!!

Sorry, no more arguing for me. 27mpg? Christ. I got 15mpg on my 01, but I'm up to 19-20 average mpg on my 06 though. 27mpg, you gotta be babying it. Good lord.

Hey I won't harp on ya. I say baby the car, you'll get more LIFE ouf of it right RED MX5? No wait, that's simply not true. Regardless of how you drive your S2000, it will not effect the life of the engine.

Couldn't resist. All in good fun.

Theres no need to be an ass You should learn how to read everything instead of just "it doesnt matter how you drive the car" Fact of the matter is the engine is designed to rev high, OBVIOUSLY if you redline every gear all the time it WILL shorten the life, but it will not shorten it dramatically. Ive seen a bunch of 100k+ engines that see vtec everyday, and to mention this again. Modifry has been supercharged for 100,000 miles. Hes making more power at lower rpms than you are even if you rev it to 9k, his engine deals with alot more stress and abuse than yours does.

It also upsets people that you purchase such a high revving sports car like the s2k to be babying it for reliability reasons. When it comes to reliability you cant get better than a honda, and if anything your cars under warranty so why worry so much man? Enjoy the damn car, I guarantee if you take care of it with regular scheduled maintenance you WILL see 100k miles vtec or no vtec. I prefer vtec

To be realistic I will NOT own this car the rest of my life, but even if I did I would vtec it everyday because I will be more satisfied feeling that rush, than drive the car like a grandma just so it can last as long as possible.

Hey just calm down. I am not gonna argue anymore.

I probably still drive my S2K as hard as you do right now, so if people read they'd actually realize that I simply stopped using vtec very very often, and I cut my time down to use it. Sure I'm partial. I drove my 01 really hard, and after 30k miles it was drinking oil and the engine felt rough. I don't think it would have gone another 15k miles the way I was driving it. Doesn't mean that's the case for everyone, but when you're averaging 15mpg, you're most definitely driving an S2000 VERY HARD. Sure it's not like a guarantee if you drive it hard it will fail in a short amount of time, but it's a possibility, and I experienced it, so if you wanna avoid possible costly repairs, why not chill out a bit on using the 6k+rpms. It can only be a good thing.

My past experience has forced me to take it easier on this 06. I honestly would still have my 01 if not for what happened. There are so so many owners who don't even use vtec at all. Granted this forum is made up of a very small percentage of actual S2000 owners, and most are pure enthusiasts, and being the car is in abundance. You wanna flame someone, flame the guys making post about mpg and getting 25-24-28mpg. You can't get that kind of mpg and use vtec.

I guess I was the easiest target, and I had to defend myself. So be it. It's all good. No more debating this subject, as it's an endless argument. PEACE!!

^ lol i just got ragged on. so i guess i'll say something >.< admittedly i baby my car. my average shifting point is 3500 rpm. i get 26-27 (and yes most recently 28) mpg because i drive mostly freeway, and i have an k&n intake which is supposed to increase gas milage. its also due to my driving style, i let the car coast in neutral for a good portion of the time i'm driving (meaning downhill and slowing down) instead of slamming on my brakes.
so, that being said, i do vtec, i dont just sit under vtec to save gas, i use it to merge on the freeway and such. which really is just how many times in a day? i only do one trip to school and back... so yeah. please don't rag on me s2k-dj, i give you the respect you deserve i just ask for the same

Hey, don't feel bad. I shift at 3500 - 4500 RPM until the engine gets warm. After the engine warms up, I shift at some RPM between 3000 and 9200, depending on situation and how I feel.

That is a given. I fully realize that you didn't do this, because it is quite impossible. So you tried to support a common sense argument by suggesting that others do something that you know full will is impossible, and stated it in a way that seemed to imply that you'd done it. Then when call out for what appears to be an attempt to decieve, you backpedled. If you actually knew anything at all about the causes of engine wear, you'd realize that common sense is often extremely misleading.

Maybe I'm reading you entirely wrong, and if so, I'm sorry, but it would be extremely disrespectful of me to tell you what I really think of your comments in this thread, so I'll just shut up.

Given the bad first impression I've gotten from you I'm wondering if we might not be better off blocking each others posts.
