Do you think the "crack" was something broke in the rear suspension? Or was it due to a bump steer problem? Or, sorry to say, driver error? Glad you are ok.

Hey Blue... Its a sad thing. Really. But I know you'll agree, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger! When you are once again at the healm of an S2000, do us all a favor and go take that turn again! In the meantime, I wish you all the courage in the world.
Benjamin.

I've just talked to Hugo and he is ok, but obviously his psyche is a bit affected at the moment. His car is totalled. He is one of the youngest members of our fora and a regular contributor. We should all wish him well...

I drive frequently where the accident occured. It's a 4 mile stretch of low traffic (at the right time, no traffic) freeway with hi-speed sweeping left and right handers that cannot be safely performed over 100MPH. It's an elevated freeway, and there are a lot of sudden drops and rises in the pavement, some mid turn. It's actually (or better "was actually") my favourite place for driving around Lisbon and I got to know the tarmac pretty well by heart.

Hugo tells me that a friend that was driving behind him saw sparks coming off the rear before the accident occurred. He could have bottomed out or some failure may have been at the basis of the accident. We'll probably never know.

Let's hope Hugo recovers quickly and gets a new '02 S2000 to help him forget this nasty incident...

BlueS2000 - Sorry to hear, I'm glad you are OK!
Knowing there might have been sparks behind you, and you heard/felt something broke is a bit scary. Please keep us informed. It sounds like you were lucky.
