Back to s2k from Sti
Well, I started off with a 2000 s2000 back in the day (few years ago heh). When the Sti's came out I thought to myself "AWD, 4 doors, and 300 hp and tq... sweet".
Well, suffice it to say I've regretted that from about 5 minutes after the ink dried on the Sti papers. So, I'm now the proud owner of a berlina black 2000 S2000 with 25k miles. It was honda certified so the powertrain is good for 100k miles or april 2007, whichever comes first. Also for $500 bucks I got the extended bumper to bumper thing to 100k miles. I know, I know, why buy that. While the s2000 is reliable as hell, I'd rather not have to pay $900 bucks or whatever is to replace air conditioner compressor if it goes, or the gaggle of other parts that might or might not go. Personally I think the powertrain on this thing will survive just fine.
I considered buying a new s2k, but I just didn't feel like buying ANOTHER $33k car after only a year. Besides, I wanted the exact same thing I gave up. Only difference is I went from red to black. So I spent 3 months hunting down one with low miles and in good shape.

Sti clutch, gearbox, while functional and very strong are clunky. Steering doesn't give me the warm fuzzies either. You loose that "connected to the road" feel you have with an s2000. The 2004's interior was pretty plastikie and cheap feeling as well. The seats were nice though.
Don't get me wrong, the Sti is a great car... for some people. Its fast as hell, corners great, and has 4 doors to boot. But, in my case I'm more of an S2000 guy over a 4 door rally car guy. Kinda like you have die hard mustang, camero, guys who won't give up their cars even when the engine falls out on their front lawn.
The Sti is for some people, S2000 is for ME. While I wouldn't mind taking a crack at C6 z06 vette, I've found that the S2000 is everything I want my car to be. I don't need 300 pounds of tq. I'm not a street racer, never have been. I'm not a 1/4 mile guy either. I might have to get me into so SCCA events though
.
The s2000 just drives the way I want my car to drive. Simple as that. Why go buy another car I'm not going to like in a year and do it all over again ?
