back trunk inner side has a cut
I just recently but a used 2007 s2000. The previous owner put a custom sound system in the trunk with all the dynamat. As i removed the trunk carpet and clean out the the dynamat i saw a square cut in the trunk where you can look out and see the bumper. The cut was about the side of the palm. I thought i was support to be like that b/c of the tow hook on the back bumper. Can anyone let me know if this a normal thing or not? Thanks in advance.
isn't that the trunk vent that other owners have claimed had a possible leak problem?
like if you got too overenthusiastic with a hose, water could enter through there.
i think that's what OP is talking about. the purpose of the trunk vent, i forgot.

flight240 are you sure it's a trunk vent? the cut seem not too clean for a factory car
since you said the cut doesn't look to clean, it probably isn't the trunk vent. the trunk vent should have a rubber flap, meaning you wouldn't be able to see out to the bumper (at least i dun think so).
just get those pictures on tonight if you can.
There is a vent in the vicinity of the tow hook. This allows the air to escape when you close the trunk. There is, however a thick rubber flap that should prevent you from seeing the bumper cover from inside the trunk.
You can see it here right above the rear bumper beam. It is the little black thing next to the license plate light.
