Once question, Why would you WANT to make backfire on your car?

If your looking for the popping noise, I would suggest glasspacks for your mufflers.

What you probably heard or saw was unburned fuel lighting off in the exhaust.

I'm guessing the backfire was the result of a rich mix and initial off throttle causing a lack of air and thus unburnt fuel to get through the engine and combusting on the way out.

For a stock S, I wonder if running the car rich is how you get backfires.

Mine backfires nearly every time I rev-match and downshift. Otherwise, I get almost no backfire.
